Cananyone tell me about how Tein pillowball mounts?

Post by czo79 »

Hello all...
I am hoping someone might be able to tell me about how tein pillowball strut mounts (fronts) are adjusted. Its just for adjusting camber right? Can anyone explain?
thanks

You mean the ultra harsh and noisy units that wear with time and start knocking? Yes they help you to change camber. One difference from just using the factory alignment is that it changes the angle of the strut along with the wheel.

To me something like this on a Subaru is pointless. The great thing about these cars is their ability to tackle asphalt as well as some off road and any foul weather. These suspensions will never be the best for asphalt alone due to their design and you'd compromise the other abilities to try to make it so. Older Hondas have double wishbone suspension which is better designed for street driving. Of course, they are front wheel drive and lack the torque to open a stuck pickle jar, though... :D

I mean maybe just to be different for road racing only, but you wouldn't want these on an everyday street car IMO.

EDIT: I'm also wondering if anyone knows anything about the rear camber bolts? I have them in my car from the previous owner...but I don't really know much about them, or anything actually, like where they are installed in the rear suspension. My alignment guy seemed happy they were there. I was worried about them working on the car cause of the suspension mods, but they said that normally they can't really do a true four wheel alignment on a subaru, but since I have these they can.

as for the tein pillowballs...Yes...I would have to generally agree. So that is why my car knocks...some mechanics have thought I need my axles replaced...while my normal mechanic hasn't mentioned it at all, and couldn't find any problems with the axles when I mentioned the other place saying there was. My car has these when I bought it, it has the sti group n strut tops in the back, and the might be a better chioce I guess for a street car. My suspension now is definately rather non-compliant. Is there any maintanance needed occasionally for these? Lube? I have a vague memory of some people having problems setting their camber (methinks) when the car is lowered. My car is lowered with the eibach springs. Could the previous owner have installed these so as to be able to dial in negative camber when lowered? Maybe I'll have to think about getting some STI group n's up front too.
Thanks all

My GFB coilovers have pillowballs all around, camber adjustable in the front. The do make noise at times, but i prefer performance over sounds i hear in-cabin, some can't handle a sacrifice in comfort i guess :P I also have rear camber bolts as they were required in addition to the control arms to get my rear camber under control.
