I forgot to mention, pretty funny actually...not ONE single door on this car is original. The driver's door is burgundy, and the other 3 are black lol. At least it saves me from having to paint the doors interior paint.

thanks man, I try 8) BTW Mark, you have the door lock cylinders that match the trunk and ignition? I almost locked myself out of the car the other day lol

The rocker panel on the other hand is TOASTED, I kinda want to cut out the entire thing and replace the whole length of it...might be a huge PITA though....

I really want to go outside and work on it right now! but my wife is at work and it is really tough to get body filler all set to spread with the hardener and then suddenly your daughter needs to open the door cuz she gotta go to the bathroom ...I already had to wipe half hardened fiberglass off the car once...and it sucked sanding it off let me tell you lol.

Looking good so far. Why not take a battery powered saw to the junk yard and cut the donor sheet metal from another car so you don't have to reinvent the parts?

No worries, i'll have to order a set at some point.

So today I tackled the passenger side...with regret lol
Image
heres how it looked to start

Image
after hitting it with a hammer twice, (it was bowed out) lots of bondo fell off!!!
Image
Image
So I just didn't go any further, I patched what I had unearthed back up and went to the other side

mocked up a rocker panel "skeleton"
Image

and then put a fiberglass patch on and filled the rest with fiber filler
Image

Came out pretty damn good, going to let it set overnight and maybe sand everything down tomorrow if I have time...then light weight body filler and paint...finally. ALMOST THERE!!!

time to get some work done with the limited time I have here..
Image
Image
Image
got the scoop removed, it was broken so it needs some glue/epoxy to get it right. Whoever cut this hood did a wicked hack job, the scoop was not lined up right so the hole needs some working over...also he left a metal strip across the breadth of it so it wasn't 100% functional either.

I also took the liberty of taking the fenders off so I can spray some rust reformer on the insides...both are pretty rusted...might eventually get new ones...not now though lol
Image
Image
Image

of course it had to be raining the one day I would have time to get a paintin'....

Now I just need to get this
Image
on to this

:shades:

I have a shroud from an 02 wrx i plan on using as sandwich plate to hold both tightly

Got a few things accomplished today, as it was pretty nice out today. Pulled the hood off so I can paint it. There was so much crap under that shroud up against the front windshield....a few mouse houses and some random plant matter shit. Shop vaced the crap out of it!
Image

Also got the fenders painted, sprayed some rust reformer on the trouble areas...pretty much rusted scraps of metal at the bottom mounting areas lol.

Primed em up
Image
and painted em with a few coats of silky satin black. For cheap spray paint this shit looks really nice in person
Image

hopefully I can cut the rest of the hood, file it down and pain that soon. Still need to repair and paint the hood scoop...and it is just fantastic that a stupid fucking bird decided to take a humongous shit on the hood scoop....

haha yeah, it's an improvement believe me. The deck is basically falling down, If I leaned on that I'd end up in the yard.

kimokalihi wrote:Mud flap and all.
underneathe those mudflaps is a measly flap or 2 of rust lol, plus the mudflaps were looking a bit dull haha. This was a $300 car so it isn't exactly getting the star treatment here

Yep got it all figured out lol 300 for the car...ot at least that's what the bill of sale says hehe. STILL need to do those gaskets though. Wouldn't be very smart for me to try and drive it around with a leaky oil pan.

Wow front bumpers on these are a major pain in the ass aren't they? any suggestions for removing those body clips underside of the bumper beam? the ones on top you could actually get to were a pain enough

About ready to take the entire front end off any get these gaskets done. Might end up doing the timing belt while I'm at it before the body pieces go back on. Just trying to get everything off to paint it easier. I would really like to paint the engine bay flat black also, but probably not going to be able to. I MIGHT build a more stockish motor for this car by rebuilding the other motor I pulled out of the car originally and keeping it SOHC. then building up the motor that is in the SS into a a DOHC motor for the RS as the RS is @ 145k miles and still plenty of life left. Decisions decisions... I guess it all depends on how the 22T in there right now runs..if it runs really well it is going to stay, either way I can start building the bottom end on the motor I pulled already. Anyone know where to get the 22T pistons? or do you just use some other ones w/o modification? I can't imagine there would be much if any scoring on the cyl walls, just a spun bearing most likely wasn't knocking hard enough for a bent rod or anything, no piston slap either...we shall see. Pics to come!!

Don't remove the clips (likely too late) as you can just remove the bracket they attach to and leave it clipped to the bumper. I found that out the hard way.

You can try Subaru for new pistons or crawford performance may still have some stock pistons laying around from when they buy the ej22t short blocks.

You can also get aftermarket pistons as well if you want.
