5MT question (transmission out)

Post by 1-3-2-4 »

This is going to sound like a stupid question but I never tried shifting at the transmission before and it looks and feels different from the shifter, I must be in reverse when moving the shifter rod to the left in the transfer case section you can see which opposing forces labels as the neutral switch moves and I'm unable to move the rod again until I rotate it again to unlock it from the position..

in the effort to not make this sound more confusing I can't figure out how to find all 5 years.. If I just pull it straight out and back in, it seems like it has 3 positions. Turning both drive shafts you can tell it must be in a higher gear because the effort to turn it becomes much greater.

OK, this might be hard to explain:

The three in and out positions go like this:
forward - 2-4-R gears
middle - neutral gate
back - 1-3-5

Now, moving the rod to the center position, you should be able to rotate it left and right a little bit and push it forward and backward again. That is:

Rotating left gives you - 1 pull and 2 push
Leaving it centered gives you - 3 pull and 4 push
Rotating right gives you - 5 pull and R push

So the rotation of the rod is moving the stick left and right.
Pushing the rod in and out is the stick moving forward and backward, but reversed because of the pivot.

1st is Left-Pull
2nd is Left-Push
3rd is Center-Pull
4th is Center-Push
5th is Right-Pull
R is Right-Push

Wow awesome and wow it's backwards in the way I'm thinking in which gear it was.
