man, i just threw away an empty wrx trans case... i would have givin it to u. all u had to do was pay shipping. :(
happens every time. i have stuff, no ones shows interest so i junk it. (just junked 6 hubs and and then all of a sudden 3 people needed hubs)...

i wouldnt use that trans case either. just go to the junkyard and get a 5 spd and swap ur gears in.

Has to be a turbo 5mt basically to retain the hydro clutch right? Won't find one around here in a yard.

There are hydraulic clutches on phase 1 2.5 liter motors (Legacy Outback and GT). You would have to get a push-type clutch and flywheel though.

Not changing the flywheel. $475 flywheel and I like it a lot :) good to know though, thanks.

I'll be getting rid of my 5spd once I do my 6spd swap, but I don't really have a timetable setup for when I'm actually going to get to do the swap. It'd probably be late summer fall before I'd do it though. If you're still looking when I get ready to sell it, I'll make sure to let you know.

One day in the distant future these will make it on my car. Just arrived today. They match my green coilovers :) Funds have been non-existant lately and I've had no time to do anything. I'll need to decide whether to upgrade the calipers or not before I buy new rotors and better pads and put these on.

Finally got to work on my car. First time in a long time. Didn't get a lot done but it was interesting. Took the trans apart. Hoping to get it back together properly with a new trans case as soon as Jeff ships me his. Worried a bit because the FSM says 17 bolts to split the case and I only counted 16 so there might be a difference between the SS case and the JDM forester case....hopefully not, that would suck.

Indeed it is a big mess. Half the parts I wanted to replace are not in the system so that is pissing me off now. I guess I'll be keeping these synchros and bearings after all. Stupid.

Yeah I spilled half a beer accidently while wrestling with the transfer case trying to remove it. Is there a trick to getting the shift selector thing lined up so it will come free? I ended up pounding it into the transfer case to allow me to pull the transfer case off the trans far enough that I was able to wiggle it free but it was a pain and I felt like there was probably a better/easier way of doing it.

Also, anybody know how I can get the gaskets for the case? It's no longer in the parts system. And I can't find the input shaft bearing in the parts system either.

No but there is a quart of motul 300 in there. The blue is from redline lightweight shockproof. Didn't help the synchros at all. Waste of about $90.

Did you ever run Subaru Extra-S in it? Completely cured my notchy synchro in 4th and made all the other shifts much smoother as well. That and a bottle of 42autosport Synchro Magic before draining the old fluid. See here for details: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthr ... ?t=2055881

I've never split one of those cases, so I'm not really sure how they're supposed to come apart.

As for the bearing, if you can't find a new one from Subaru, you may have to try and find a good used one, or see if you can find any markings on the bearing to buy from one of the bearing shops.

This post has some info about NSK bearing markings...not sure if it will help.

My clutch line was leaking somewhere so I bought a new SS clutch line on ebay and was hoping it would look the same as my brake lines but it was just a non-see-through rubber sleeved SS line in green. Oh well. Got it on in 15 mins. Dropped the stupid copper crush washers three times in the process but it's on and waiting to be bled once the trans is back in.
