Koyo Raditor Fitment R1819

Post by turboleg »

Hi All,

So I got around to putting my spare engine in the 91 project car this weekend. Everything was running along great until I went to install my new koyo R1819 radiator. I found that the radiator is some 2-3" taller than the stock radiator. I tried to dry fit it into place and found that there is no way the hood would ever close with this thing. I double checked the packing slip and the reciept...all stating it is indeed an R1819, but it appears to be a no go. I then checked the Koyo website and the website I purchased the rad from, which both state fitment for 90-94 legacy. It "appears" that the 93 legacy SS that is sitting in my garage has a 2-3" taller radiator as well. Unless I'm missing something there is a height difference between the pre and post face lift radiators.

Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm doubtful, but the car hull was a 91 legacy NA FWD converted to Turbo AWD, I can't imagine there was differences in the front ends between the NA and the SS though...thats just not like Subaru.

The turbo radiators are taller, yes. Their lower radiator support is different shaped/lower to accommodate this.

Mike is right. Turbo lower radiator support is different than N/A.

As the guys noted, the turbo radiator is taller, it also is a dual core vs. the non-turbo's single core.

If you want to upgrade the radiator on a 1st gen legacy that has been converted to a turbo, check out my thread here.
