Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
If the 1.3L flywheel has more mass than the 1L, it'll kill any responsiveness the car might've had. Think of it as the opposite of a lightweight flywheel.
Awesome work on the Legacy! Glad you're gonna make it to WCSS.

Yeah screw that noise. Its not that hard except removal and install of the trans and its pointless because there's not a speedo gear that going to fix it.cj91legss wrote:Hmmmm......... Well i guess we could just crack it open again. But thats a shitty process as you know.

Thanks stephen. The flywheel isn't really heavier than stock I don't think. Its just a tiny bit larger in diameter and the clutch should be stronger.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
Working on the trans before we got it back on the road. Don't know if I mentioned it already or not but CJ came down to my place weds and helped me swap my internals into the new tranny case and Patrick also came down and helped and my friend max. I worked on that car from 10:30am-12:30am with an hour break to pick up parts and eat lunch. 13 hours basically non-stop! Fired up first try though!

Thanks! I managed to hide the dirtiness of my car and all the cracks in my windshield with this cheap instagram pic.

I was gonna ask you, what happened to your windshield or has it been like that the whole time?
Kimo was being pretty meticulous about cleaning his trans case. Very good thing to do...

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
What's this?? Unexpected mods! Yay. These 05 WRX seats sit much higher than my 02/03 seats
. Wondering if maybe I can swap the seat rails or something or at least chop and weld the existing rails. They're also heated with airbags so they are heavy as can be. Don't know if it's possible to remove the heating part or if I should just try to wire them up. The seats and steering wheel came out of a rolled 05 WRX my friend parted out. The driver's side seat was bent pretty bad but we managed to bend it back almost all the way and we're gonna reef on it some more. The back needs to be swapped still and they need a good cleaning but they sure look sexy.

The seats and steering wheel look good. The heater elements are not that heavy. Plus I would wire them up to use for your winters. The airbags are probably the heaviest parts.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
I don't know. Those the airbag from the steering wheel wasn't that heavy but these seats are much heavier than the 02/03 and the side bolstering isn't nearly as deep so it doesn't keep you planted nearly as well and I miss that already.

Yeah, the 02-03 seats are quite good. I just sold the set I had last night. Got $400 for the seats. Not bad since I'm not needing them anymore.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
I've been selling off my parts cars and project car accumulation, and I've been making money off of things. Lucky I guess. Plus it helps that I don't need to sell, so I can keep my prices fairly firm. Enough about me though...
The WRX seats do sit higher. But when I swapped out my stock SS seats for some heated leather out of a 99 GT Limited, they sat lower. It was a nice perk of the upgrade. I still need to make a bracket to move the seat position back a few inches. Damn long legs.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
Really? I thought they go back pretty far already. Crazy. I'm about 6ft tall too. I really hope I can get these seats lower somehow. I don't like gangster leans and the added height can be felt a lot in the corners. Tye car feels like its rolling more but it may just be me that's rolling more and the smaller side bolsters. Overall its basically a sacrifice for looks and that's usually not my style...

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
You could try to swap the rails. I think they just unbolt from the bottoms of the seats. I know one bolt on my STI was loose and it was a pain to get to it to tighten it.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
Mucho improvement on the steering wheel! IMO, the 02-03 wrx seats are way more supportive than the later years, in addition to being lower and lighter. Win Win. I swapped my 02's for the 95's I have in there now, otherwise I'd still be runnin em cause they rock so hard

Yeah I'm excited about the looks of the seats but bummed they are such a let down in comparison. Nobody has mentioned these differences beforem.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
Nobody on here. But the general consensus is that the 02-03 seats were the best. The later wrx and sti seats don't have much for bolstering. (read fat Americans) The new FRS & BRZ seats are really good, much better than any of the impreza seats.

Re: kimokalihi's 91 SS EJ20 Swap
I saw a few brzs at wcss this year and the seats look amazing but good luck finding some of those. I bet they sit real low too but I doubt they'll bolt up to our cars and I can see them costing $1,200+ for a pair.

I'm sure you're right, and I forgot to mention, the Impreza (WRX & STi) seats from 08-on don't bolt up directly.

If I end up keeping the black ones the other set is traded for these. I think max is putting them into his legacy gt he's buying.
