Anyone have a picture of the clear corners for a 91 turbo?

Headlights to tailights and everything in between.

Nope, Adam removed the turn signals in the bumper in favor of some CATZ fog/driving lights.

that's why he's got those gay orange things....

I'd take the bumper turn signals any day over those orange things...

Yeah that looks pretty good.....I think he had a post or something explaining it more. But he took the orange piece out and put a clear piece in it's place.....

I think I remember reading something about being able to peel an orange film off or something, not replacing any actual pieces.

If the orange insert is anything like my 2.5GT or the old RSs you could actually heat up the plastic with a heat gun and then carefully break apart the orange piece. You had to be careful because if you chipped away too hard you'd crack the outside of the housing.

The orange piece is the outside of the lense. It's an insert type thing, which is why you have to replace it with something else.

i still do prefere blacking out the orange turn signals to clearing them. They don't look that good on the corner lights, kind of bronzeish instead of black (I dont think i put enough on this time), but the rest of the orange stuff looks nice.

You have to smash out the orange bit. I replaced it with a prismatic peice of plastic, A completely clear peice would look awkward.

Here's a better pic:

Those corners look great! What kind of plastic and adhesive did you use?

Ha ha, ya I know those headlights are rough, but they do look worse in the picture then they really are, honestly  . I did sand and polish em but I havn't done the full all out attempt yet (with clearcoat and all). Still their better then they were. As for the corners, prismatic light plastic was used. The adhesive was applied marginally and was a plastic cement type adhesive.

Get Smoked Out.

Post by tris91ricer »

STYLE ALERT!:
The new clear is smoked out. everyone and their sister has clear corners on their cars. (and trucks and SUVs, for that matter. --even soccer moms!)
So get yourself some lense paint and work carefully. Cover the entire corner lense in black, or whatever color you prefer,
and be amazed as you achieve an aggressive look that functions as well --hides the age of your lights.
you won't have to spend too much time sanding and polishing your heads and corners if they're smoked and painted correctly..
and yes, you'll still get bright light (again, if you do it correctly.)
My 91 has lenses exactly like Josh's, and mine are all black, and the headlights are painted to create a 'projector' look.
it's easier, and less mainstream.. isn't that what subaru is all about?

I dunno about it being a new thing, since some of the mkIII (i believe or mkII not sure) jettas had smoked tails from the factory. Did you black out your front turn signals aswell? It looks hottt.

...but whenever you black out a light that wasn't meant for it, you reduce its performance...

Blacking out your head/taillights is like carrying a huge sign with "Please Pull Me Over!" painted in bright orange letters on it. At least in THIS dumbass state....

Eh, IMHO . . . on a white car a clear corner looks better than a blacked out corner.

I don't like the smoked out tail/headlights either. Something about diminishing the performance of lighting doesn't do it for me:D. I really like clear/white corners though. My wife's RS is all cleared up:D.

okay, okay...

Post by tris91ricer »

do what you do, aaaiiiight? i see the lack of aesthetics on a white car, but mine happens to be black.. either way.. yes, it does reduce the lighting slightly, but you make up for it with some hyper whites or some really obnoxious lighting setup that more than compensates..
you do what you do.. i aint gonna tell ya how to live your life..
and i've only gotten remarks about having the can(of lens paint) in the car, never about the actual lighting situation.. in addition, let's just say that was a luckier copstop than most.. hehehe.. (falls over, giggling in a cloud of smoke..)

later.

"Hyper whites" don't improve lighting either...

You know, we have a word for modifications that are done purely for cosmetic reasons but that hurt performance. Like rims that are really heavy or wings that increase drag...

true it is ricey but I honestly dont care. Yeah I might have reduced the safety of my vehicle from really far away (like more than a block), I didn't make them so incredibly dark you cant see anything from them. But I am still better off than those people that have one turn signal, running, and brake light all in one or the people that just plain don't use their blinkers at all. So in short, my car has rice, but its tasteful rice that actually makes it look better.

I see what you're saying... So, it's like pork fried rice instead of that scoop-shaped lump of white rice they give you at Chinese restaurants. places
