Quick question on WRX tranny and our 5mt center dif compat

Post by randomiam »

I was doing a bit of reading and thinking about how I want to resolve my transmission issues:

Are our center differentials capable of simply bolting up to a <03 WRX tranny?

I ask because it may be a pretty cost effective way to fix my dilemma. This would be super cheap and awesome if possible.

Someone on here said it won't work due to the difference between phase I and II innards. Can't remember who.

I would basically like to just swap transfer cases.

I found this thread:

to be helpful. Not looking to split the case or anything to that extent.

I owned Kelly's '91 Radio Flyer with an '03 WRX transmission swapped in and a Phase1 3.90 transfer gearset to make the stock 3.90 rear work, so I know it can be done. Search for threads by skid542 to find his writeup on the process. It's fairly easy.
