Yeah, I was starting to think it was something seriously wrong. All these little BS issues are slowly being cleared up. I do still get a clunking in the rear end from something that sounds loose, or maybe some metal thing fell into that crevice on either side of the trunk? anyone ever have anything fall in there and clank around going over bumps? I am running out of ideas as to what it could be...

It could be the front outrigger bushings. They make a poly bushing spacer that takes up the extra space and keeps the outrigger from moving around as much.

I was thinking bushings just because pretty much every last one is shot to shit, I could wrap the metal sleeve in some duct tape and it would probably work better right now lol. I really just want to find a STi rear end in good condition and swap everything at once with a "new" rear crossmember with all the trimmings, do the sub frame bushings while i'm in there.

I also noticed I get a pop sometimes when I turn the wheel to the left, like there is tension "I can't feel this" and it is suddenly release making a dull popping noise, I know it isn't the ball joints, they are new... Maybe the steering rack can move around a bit b/c of the condition of the rack bushings....so many different noises they are tough to isolate which is which....

I also managed to snap a stud off of my front strut upper mount, there were some old rusty nuts on from the old struts and I had some nice shiny ones lying around, so I thought it would be a great idea to put nice new nuts on, for some reason one of the studs snapped when I went to take the old nut off, turns out it was a bad idea to change them, anyone ever have to punch out an old stud and insert a new one, I have some spares from the rear GC mounting plates, I'd imagine those would work. I just want to get all these little things straight before I start doing my intercooler...

I don't know if you'll be able to get the stud out without removing the mount, but I suppose you could give it a try.

I'll give it a shot, it will probably come out, but getting the new stuff back in there...that's the tough part lol.

Today I cleaned out the fuel system using a few cans of this industrial fuel cleaner stuff. It gets put into this special canister, that you pressurize with shop air, and spray right in front of the throttle plate. Then directly in line with the fuel injectors themselves
Image
Image
...what a difference, feels like Sex Panther has been completely rejuvenated!! Idle is smoother, more responsive throttle and moar ballz!!!

I also re-did the carrier bearing mount bushings, I just re-used some leftover bushings from the 240sx's end links, so now it has poly bushings in there until I can get a new driveshaft bearing, or might just wait till I go 5spd....

I think my next item is to cut the exhaust and straight pipe this beast, I need some rumbles asap! This stock muffler just isn't cutting the mustard anymore, until I can get the exhaust I want I am just going to fab up a ghetto-back exhaust, I really want an STi Genome, but I have to actually find one first lol

Haven't gotten all that much done, I have been working on a holloween costume, check it out.

plan on getting a bunch of stuff from here, http://store.powerflexusa.com/subaru-im ... s-p53.aspx

I also want to grab a cheap rear swaybar, will anything fit the rear or is there things that just won't work?

For the rear, anything designed for a 90-99 Legacy will work. Impreza ones won't fit due to not having provisions for the spare tire "hump."

Doesn't it matter if you have the drop c style endlinks versus the stub style on the square style lateral links?

^You are correct sir, so I guess I am limited to what swaybar I can use, whiteline makes one and aside from that there aren't all that many options, I might actually just end up doing the adjustable whiteline lateral links too, they are cheaper than the STi ones

Found a good deal on a complete set of STi lateral links with the rear member, might just buy it even though they are the newer style with the silverish white links....too good a deal to pass up.

I am going to be either dumping a fair amount of cash down to get some new bushings, OR I might use that same "bushing money" to just buy another chassis to swap everything into, these bushings are quite pricey, and this is an old chassis pushing over 200k with some serious rust on the rockers and wheel wells, I just kinda put a big fat band aid over it for now. I could always do the bushings and just swap all the stuff over...it really depends on what I can find for a shell. Either way I think that sex panther is going to eventually require a chassis transplant lol, until then maybe some serious bushing surgery is required....it really depends on what is out there in good ole' RI for clean chassis....might end up rolling this thread right into Sex Panther II

thanks, he is just as far out as Mark is though lol, plus it is probably just as rusty as my current rig based on the CL pics, it has the classic rocker panel rust, probably goes right up into the rear quarters.

I am looking for something rust free or close too it, something I can rip apart, POR15 the chassis from the inside and not ever have to worry about it rotting away. I plan on just doing this one time and having it for a looooong time.

AAA the first 100 miles.

heres some pics just in case it comes down to you needing a shell.
(front xmember is not included, its on there so i have something to rest the dolly on and move the car around if i have to)
you can have the whole car for 200.

since there is no drivetrain you dont have to strip the car. its all cleaned up on the bottom. just take off the good parts from the 93 and install on the 91. i have the hvac controls and the center console just needs to be painted black. other than that everything is there or swap out what u dont want from the 93. its basically just a clean shell for you to move your stuff over in one shot like i did a few years ago with (2) of my 91ss's.
