bad trans?

well i drove the subie to my parents house from the shop. it shifted hard threw the gears and when it was time to go into 4th its just reved up no gear change. is this a bad trans or just something out of wack.

i was reading some of transmission threads and theres alot of bad adjustment questions. what aore signs of out of adjustment bands

You can try adjusting the brake band. That is about the only thing you can do without taking the trans out and disassembling.

but what are the symptoms of a out of adjusted band

well mine has a high rpm shift and shifts hard and refuses to go to 4th. the engine just wines. that kinda fits symptom 2 on that chart. sorta

the trans fluid is full and clean

You can try adjusting the brake band. If that doesn't help, then it's something else internally and would require someone to dig into it further to determine the exact cause.

well its going to the local trans shop in a week. so i'm taking this time to tidy the car up and and install some parts

well took the subie to another shop to have the trans check and have some stuff done that the other shop didnt do. i noticed when i had the manual button activated the trans shifted smoother 1-3 but still wouldnt do into 4th. hopefully next week i'll have some answers

The manual button shouldn't really affect the shifting. It primarily just keeps the trans from going into 1st gear when the gear selector is in the 3 or 2 position.

well in my case it shifted smoother 1-3 dunno why just did
