JDM TD05-16g

Post by kimokalihi »

Bought this turbo off of craigslist in good condition. Cleaned it up, removed all the rust and painted the hot side with VHT Flameproof 2000F ceramic header paint. It spins great with minimal shaft play. I have not used it so I don't know for sure that the seals are good but it didn't appear to be leaking any oil. As far as I can tell it's in great shape.

The ceramic paint needs to be cured prior to use which can either be done in an oven (don't want those paint fumes in my oven) or on the vehicle.

Curing FlameProof™

VHT FlameProof™ Coating only attains its unique properties after correct curing (refer to instructions on the can).
On the Vehicle

Paint must be completely dry before curing
Run at idle for 10 minutes
Cool for 20 minutes
Run at idle for 20 minutes
Cool for 20 minutes
Run under normal operating conditions for 30 minutes

Off the Vehicle

Paint must be completely dry before curing
Heat to 250°F (121°C) for 30 minutes
Cool for 30 minutes
Heat to 400°F (204°C) for 30 minutes
Cool for 30 minutes
Heat to 650°F (343°C ) for 30 minutes

Caution: Do not exceed the temperature of the least heat tolerant component or the base metal

This should be a pretty straight forward bolt on for 91-94 Legacy turbo.

$400 shipped $325 picked up in the Olympia area.

Price drop! $275 picked up $340 shipped.

Thanks. I wasn't really sure what they go for. You're the second person to say it was a good price so it looks like I set it appropriately. Hopefully make a quick sale. Buying a rebuilt trans for the metro. Stupid 2nd gear synchro has been shot for years.

thats definitly a good price. (almost want to buy it just because) but im saving for the new gopro.
usually they go for around 450ish because of the "rare" 90 degree bend for the 1st gen legacies.

Is that the one I found on craigslist a while back that the guy said was for an Evo?

Anyway, nice job cleaning it up, it should sell eventually.
These turbos are awesome on our cars! Fast spool and good power, plus it has a 90 degree bend for easy fitment.

Not trying to flame you or anything, just a word to the wise.
I have used this stuff and love eet!
However, this stuff does flake. It also is SUPER picky about the surfaces is adheres too, looks like you degreased it so thats cool.

I just got a td05 from the UK.

Mine has some shaft play, is this ahhh, normal? My vf11 was wasted seal wise but doesnt have shaft play.

Every coating is going to rust off eventually. Pretty sure my grimmspeed coating they did is gone on my turbo. I did it to keep it nice for as long as possible.
