91 ss, 4eat rebuild Questions

Post by 91legss »

Ok, So ive spent hours at work today(it was dead) looking into rebuilding my tranny. as far as i can tell theirs no torque bind or slipping, just no reverse when its warmed up, if its cold i have a little reverse.

So here's the question, what is a good full rebuild kit for these tranys that can handle some mods?

Do you have any experience rebuilding automatic transmissions?

If not, I'd strongly urge you to reconsider doing it yourself. I do not know of any "complete" type kits that come with everything. Until you open it up and take a look at the clutches, spings, etc, it's hard to say exactly what will need to be replaced. Transgo makes a shift kit that improves the 1-2 shift and corrects some of the issues that cause these transmissions to fail prematurely. Alternatively, IPT can work over the valve body to improve shifts, etc.

So it all depends on how much money you want to spend and what you're ultimately looking for.

I'm not doing it!, I'm having a friend that owns a shop where i live that only works on Subarus, he's been doing it for over 30 years! he knows everything there is in and out of these cars... But im trying to figure out if i want him to rebuild the auto or put a 5 speed in... So ill look into the transgo kit and go from there.

Thanks
