93 Legacy camshaft swapability

Post by matt72 »

Just inquiring whether or not any of the later phase sohc camshafts would work in the Legacy heads in my 93 wagon. I've been running my NA frankenmotor for over a year (2.5 block/stock NA Legacy heads/.040 cometic) and pulled it to change out the clutch among other things. I have a bunch of spare stuff in my basement that I haven't really pulled apart/gone through and looked at /measured up yet. Thought I'd ask in advance. I have a set of sohc heads from a 95 legacy (I'm sure they are no different), a 99 RS I believe, and a 2000 Impreza OBS ( <==can't remember off the top of my head if they are sohc or dohc, I'll know when I see them obviously). I know Delta can do regrinds but this is a more "while it's out" kinda thing. Can't swap the the heads because of the difference in manifolds plus I want to keep the higher compression thing going. Also isn't there some issue with the HLA vs roller or whatever?

TIA

Besides any difference in the cam's physical dimensions, bearing locations, the thrust bearing needs to be the same....which I'm not sure if they are. Assuming all those things are good and the cams physically fit, you would need to match the rocker assembly with the cams and appropriate lifters. A cam setup for roller lifters will have a different cam profile then one that is not setup for roller lifters.

Additionally, you'd want to make sure the oiling points match up on the rocker assembly and the heads.

Yeah there's no way it could work at a closer look.

Can you share what you found and what the specific differences are?
