Roof Rack question

Post by devilzdriver »

Hey gang i got a 92 SS sedan and was wondering does anyone have roof racks and if so where did they get them? and the other thing i wanted to know is, do any of you use a safari roof basket? How much can i put in it? I was thinking of getting a roof rack to bring tires and jazz like that to the rallyx..... thanks

I know there are several folks that have roof racks of some kind, so I'm sure they'll be able to comment and provide you some feedback.

Do you have the owner's manual for the car? If so, I'd suggest looking in it, as I think it has info on max capacity for roof racks....since they all typically connect to the roof rails.

Alternatively, I've scanned my 90 owner's manual, and you can look through it.

i looked threw the owners manual but said nothing about roof compactly, my thought is that if i have the roof rack i can put my cooler and things like that on top... and save room inside for bigger things like jack and tools...

Ok.....I would have thought they'd say something.

Anyone else have any feedback from putting a roof rack on their cars?

I had a similar setup. You would need Yakima Q-Towers with the appropriate feet. I had 48" bars. If you go on Yakima's website and use the Fit Guide it will tell you exactly what you need.

Max load according to Yakima on a sedan roof is 165lbs.

That will tell you exactly what you need. You can never go wrong with Yakima.

Also if you get a Load Warrior basket get locks! I had mine stolen off my Rodeo with my shovle, ski, and jack mounts on it.
