5spd Flywheel, Clutch, & Pressure Plate Weights

Post by Legacy777 »

If you've been following my 6spd Swap Details Thread then you noticed I posted weights of the stock 6spd flywheel, clutch, & pressure plate. Here are the weights for the 5spd components. Everything but the flywheel is stock Subaru parts for the WRX. The flywheel is a light weight unit from Exedy.

Subaru WRX Pressure Plate - 11.15 lbs

Exedy LW WRX Flywheel - 12.90 lbs

There's a 0.05 lb difference between the individual component weights and the components weighed together, which is a pretty good comparison for rounding.

When I bought the Exedy LW flywheel it was advertised as 14.7 lbs, which it is not! This would explain why it was a rather pain in the butt to drive in traffic.

The table below compares the 5spd component weights to the 6spd component weights. The only real major difference is the flywheels, which is to be expected (LW vs. stock).

Clutch Disc
5spd - 3.55 lbs vs. 6spd - 3.75 lbs

Pressure Plate
5spd - 11.15 lbs vs. 6spd - 13.00 lbs

Flywheel
LW 5spd - 12.90 lbs vs. Stock 6spd - 19.60 lbs

Combined
5spd - 27.55 lbs vs. 6spd - 36.25 lbs (8.7 lbs difference)
