So if you have watched the "What did you do to your suby today" thread, you've realized i blew my VF39. I picked up 2 more broken STI vf39s today and out of the 3 and 1 ebay rebuild kit I'm going to see if i can fix one and get this back on the road. However I can manage to sell enough crap, I'm just going to buy a new turbo (hopefully td05/6)

The turbo is definately done, Last drive it wouldn't build any boost. I haven't taken it off yet but I'm wondering if maybe the up-pipe flex joint may have something to do with it. Don't know but i can only speculate..... I will update this thread as i go (as usual) and maybe i can verify myself if a VF39 can be rebuilt. We shall See.....

Cfk needed a turbo grill and i plan on keeping this in the garage as soon as i get my truck. I wanna preface it before i paint.

Well i got some news, not great but it's something... The turbo is beyond repairable. I have another vf39 that i may rebuild altho skeptical about that. it needs a new compressor turbine, and those are pricey. My turbo definately puked some serious oil at the end... You'll see it in the pictures.

On an up-side, I got my Z4 ECU in the mail today

Well I just bit the bullet, I just bought some ebay turbo for 135 shipped, Looks like i'll buy a rebuild kit to go along with it. Got a decent deal, 135 shipped, never been used previous owner paid 300 for it.

I know it's not a name brand turbo, but i need my car to get to work...

Would it be troublesome to just take it back to a stock VF11 until you sorted this? I would think you could probably grab one for free these days.

I have the under the manifold turbo setup. I would have to re design my whole intake, and alto its possible its just a huge pain in the ass. An ebay turbo isnt ideal either but i can DD this til i get the title to my truck and then park this and do what i really want. I just need this to last til Feb at the latest. My plan is to sand and prep for paint. Go non abs. Relocate battery. Collect May and cop setup. Replace clutch master, slave, and line. Weld antenna hole closed. And carbon wrap my roof.

I was gonna suggest a TD04 as they're pretty cheap too, but it sounds like you've already got the turbo coming.

Yeah, I hope the guy sent it out yesterday, need this thing solved asap.

Anyways, I got bored today and cleaned up my garage some so i could tear the vf39 apart. got that all done and tore it apart and i was impressed. That turbo was abused

The ceramic seal on the compressor side was completely gone, inside of the compressor was worn down as was the wheel. The turbine shaft got really hot. spun itself something pretty ugly. The journal bearings are also spun down so they're 1/8" more open than they should be. And the turbine housing is also destroyed. The only thing useful is probably the cartridge housing only.










Also welded my antenna hole closed, put a small piece of metal inside the trunk under the hole and tacked a couple beads on it and over filled the rest with bondo. after I let it dry for a day i'll carve it down with a knife and start sanding.

There's genuine mhi td05 rebuild kits on ebay. So i May end up ordering one of those just to have intake the 20g fails.

And round 2 I'm actually quite excited to do this. If anyone is wondering why I'm doing this, I want to put a stubby antenna on the roof to give the SS a RC style look.



Also looking at my previous pictures above, I'm quite pleased with the relatively decent picture quality my Galaxy S 2 has.

Looks like you didn't focus that last pic. Are you tapping the screen to pick what it focuses on before taking the picture? Sometimes this is especially useful if you can't get it to focus on the right object and it will hold that focus and then you can move the phone closer or further to get the object you want in focus.

That last pic was me being cold and hadn't eaten in awhile. I honestly think ill be diabetic. When i don't eat i get super shaky.

Well the damn turbo didn't show up yesterday. Later on in the evening the tracking changed the delivery date. It's in town now. I did get my knock sensor in the mail tho. Hopefully I will get my UP and DP gaskets today.

I did some more sanding on the rear quarter panel. Spot filled rock chips and what not. While I'm waiting for delivery today I think I will do some sanding and prime that quarter panel.

Well Turbo is here but I'm still waiting on the mail man to see if my new gaskets arrived. Here's some photos. The comparison pics are next to a VF39.

I know it's a cheap turbo and hell i may even suffer from this. But I'm biting the bullet here so I can get to and from work without borrowing the girlfriend's car. She has to work too right?
