VLSD swap from forster S to 92 legacy

Post by turbo wagon »

Hello, can i swap out just the VLSD unit from a 4.44 geared forester S diff to a 4.11 92 legacy diff. I know the ring gears will not work but will just VLSD swap work?

Sure, you just grind down the little nubs in the non-vlsd case and bolt the vlsd in. You'll see the nubs I'm talking about when you open both cases.

Keep track of which shims went to which diff.

Why not get a 4.11 vlsd out of GT? Also need to change rear axels with second gen rear axels also swap the flange that the drive line bolts to and lastly the bolts on the back of the case need to be swapped.

I am having a hard time finding a 4.11 vlsd diff, and i found a low cost 4.44 vlsd diff. I was making sure i could use my old diff and just swap out the vlsd part of the diff.

He just wants to swap the vlsd into his open diff, so flange swap, bolts and studs shouldn't be necessary. I hadn't thought the stubs. If they won't fit in the new vlsd, then you're right that 2nd gen legacy axles are needed.
