I have an old 1/2 farad capacitor that I was using for my amp back when I still had subs in my car. Could I hook that up to the positive on the battery to help with the electrical load?
The terminals on the capacitor are smaller than the battery cables but I was using it for my amp so it should be able to handle a heavy current draw.

There's nothing I can think of that would benefit from a capacitor. The battery already has an excess of power compared to what is required when the car is running as long as everything works right.
I'm thinking the grounding mod would be much more effective.

I've done some research on using a capacitor and I haven't come across anyone that's tried what I have in mind. However the info I came up with says that using a capacitor doesn't really help an amplifier as much as it helps the rest of the accessories on the circuit.

That's probably because it saves the rest of the circuit from seeing a drop when the amp hits.
It may very well help at times like when the A/C kicks on, fans kick on, etc when you can see the headlights dim for a split second. It certainly wouldn't hurt anything.
