Tire chains
I should put them on the front, correct? Geez. I'm so bad at snow.

Don't downshift too fast, or you can put yourself into a spin/slide. It's much worse with a RWD vehicle then AWD....but still can be dicey if it's slick out.

You should always speed match down changes, especially in low traction situations. Saves the synchros and keeps the balance.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

I agree with ciper, I have snow tires on my legacy because eastern WA gets lots of snow, and I drive the pass to the western side often enough that I thought I'd try the snow tire thing, and I was shocked. I feel very secure on the road with them. On the get go, unless I want to, I never slip a tire.
The drove over Snoqualmie one year in my GL-10. It took us 7 hours to get over the pass, and took us 12 hours to get from Seattle to Tri-Cities. I only had streat tires on the car and they weren't that great anymore. The tires would slip every once in a while from a get go, but with careful driving it wasn't that bad. I did better than most of the other trucks and cars that were and weren't using chains. The pass was horrable as far as Ice and snow go. Plus it was still snowing and just after I got through they closed the pass. It was closed for over 7 hours.
