Subarus don't have an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor, or at least Mine doesn't

Ver 8-9 STI does. But in general, these "performance" chips simply have a resistor in them (about $0.10 worth) that fools your ecu to thinking the outside air temp is cooler than it really is. Performance gains? Maybe, but nothing your ecu wouldn't provide in the winter anyways. Blowing up your engine? Probably not. Worth it? naw.

The more you look into it or think about is, anything that "fools" the ecu into thinking something that is happening really isnt doesnt seem like a good idea...

Yes they do. It is incorporated into the MAF sensor. The newer JDM STi's have a seperate IAT sensor in the manifold to calculate TRUE air temp before entering the cylinders after the turbo has heated, and then the intercooler has cooled the air. Otherwise all Subarus IAT are monitored through the MAF sensor.

That is all MAF based Subarus....my 2001 RS is a speed density based system and has to have IAT and MAP sensor to work.

The simply answer is don't even bother with this.

The newer MAF's have an IAT built in. The older MAF's like in our cars don't have the ability to directly measure air temperature. There may be some calculations you can do that may allow you to work into the air temp from the "back side", but I haven't run across anything like that.

If you could actually gain 30hp on an N/A 4cyl for $70 and no mechanical changes, it would be the most popular mod in history.
