Power antenna broken

Post by sullione »

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this but...my power antenna is broken. I can still hear the motor turn on and off but there's an audible series of clicks when the antenna is trying to go up and down. It's as if the motor is good but whatever causes the antenna to move has come apart. Anyone have this happen to them? Any suggestions?

Well its probably too late for yours but antennas should be cleaned and lubricated every once in a while.

You may be able to save it. Spend time pulling it out and use some WD40 on it. Clean it until nothing is left on the rag then cover it and push it down. When you pull it up again more gunk will be stuck.

I did this to one of my legacy and got the antenna to work 95% (still clicks at the bottom but at least it moves)

if it's beyond repair, maybe it's time for a S2000 antenna swap, if you like what they look like.

Never seen an S2000 antenna. Any pics? Is it an easy swap? I was doing everything that Ciper mentioned (cleaning and oiling) before and this still happened. I think it's truely dead unfortunately.

How hard would it be toconvert to an L manual antenna? I suppose you'd have an ugly hole in the back, though.

Here's a decent picture of the antenna ON the S2000. It's a very sleek design. :)

Honestly, that's exactly what i was thinking about using as a replacement. Sure, I'll miss my power antenna but I could get over it. How's the reception with something that small? Would it be an expensive/time-consuming/worthwile replacement?

Hmm... I'll have to do this. Mine still works but I'm getting clicks and it doesn't extend all the way sometimes.

You can just un-plug it then pull it up as far as you would like. I had the same problem and did that.

I'm probably going to swap mine out someday with a similar black rubber style, a little longer than tha S2000 one.

I've got a kink in the lowest section of my power antenae so I get clicks all the time and sometimes is sticks more than others.

Well, mine is shot. It won't even stay up by itself. I'll have to replace it soon but I've noticed that since it only stays up about halk way I can't get the reception that I used to get. This may prove to be a problem with the S2000 antenna. I may need a longer one also.
