This may be a little dated, but I think it's a very good looking car......it'd be nice if the production car looked half as good!

Re: Subaru Hybrid - Advanced Tourer
Saw that a long time ago. It actually looks better than anything subaru has out right now. Enough with the hybrids already though.

Meh.
Series hybrids are going to be the future of autos, I fear. They're efficiency is hard to beat and will only improve with battery technology.

Meh.
If it's going to have the weight and cost of the electric motor(s) and battery packs anyways, I'd much rather have something like a Chevy Volt where I can achieve my daily commute on electric power alone and save the gas engine for long trips (which I try to avoid like the plague nowadays). I'd then keep a traditional gas powered car for my enthusiast needs. No compromises on performance or efficiency and infrequent driving of the gas car would still keep a smaller carbon footprint than getting 60mpg daily in a mild hybrid (not that I care terribly about carbon footprint anyways).

I think the future is electrics one way or the other and it will be when we start making electricity more efficiently and more green.

But you can get so much more power and response in an electric, but gas burners are just so much more fun and less linear

Re: Subaru Hybrid - Advanced Tourer
The main issue is the "compactness" of the fuel you're using and what kind of energy you are getting out of it. Look how much energy you get out of one cubic foot of gasoline. If you compare that to the same size battery, there's much more energy in the gasoline. That is one of the main reasons liquid hydrocarbons are still used so prevelently for mobile transportation. Plus they are pretty easily transported & stored.
Regardless, I think we will continue to see some big changes in the automotive world in our life time. Some may be good, some may not.
