Best bet is likely going to be either taking yours out and rebuilding or buying one and rebuilding so you can swap it out. I have pulled several of these out of tlegs and I can really say any of them have been in good condition.

that's saying something. the OEM rack is no slouch. the whiteline bushings will be a nice combo. i'll just be glad to not have hydraulic fluid leaking anymore.

I'm interested in knowing what is noticeably different. Are mods needed to make it fit?

Quicker ratio, and yes, the connecting joint between steering column and rack needs to be cut and a sti end welded on the rack side of the joint. Also the hard lines on the rack need to be swapped from the old rack so it connects to the pump correctly.

Thanks for that info!

So, is it only the '04 sti rack that can be used or can sti racks of other years be used? Also, does the mod still keep the safety feature of the column collapsing in an accident?

I believe only 04 STI rack bolts in, 05 and newer bolts in differently. Also all safety features are unchanged. The shaft between the rack and column with u joints on it needs to be modified with a joint from STI shaft to match the racks splines (of course it's different than our racks).
