I'm still having issues getting my '93 ss to run right. Basically, it bucks and stalls under load. This morning I was reviewing the history of when the drivability issues began. I had overlooked one event and I'm thinking it could be the cause of the issues. Here's what happened:
I had replaced the starter, and for some reasons I don't recall right now, I had disconnected the ignitor. I got everything hooked up but, duh, I had forgotten to connect the ignitor. I tried starting the car, and of course, it wouldn't start. Then the started was stuck after that. There was ATF leaking under the starter area onto the driveway (that really puzzled me).
So, my question is: Did I ruin the ignitor or any other electrical component by not having the ignitor connected when I attempted to start the car?
Bad electrical component?

Re: Bad electrical component?
I wouldn't think that unplugging the ignitor would mess anything up, But i haven't ever tried to start without the ignitor unplugged. Do you have another you can test on? Did you forget to plug something else in?

Re: Bad electrical component?
No, you shouldn't have damaged anything by leaving the igniter unplugged.

i don't have another ignitor to swap in. And I don't recall leaving anything else unplugged.cj91legss wrote:I wouldn't think that unplugging the ignitor would mess anything up, But i haven't ever tried to start without the ignitor unplugged. Re: Bad electrical component?
Thank you, both, for your replies.
Okay, now does anyone have any idea why ATF would have leaked out? It was probably about a cup or two of ATF under the starter area. I tried tracing it but couldn't locate the source. There was also a burning smell like electrical mixed with something else. Anyone have ideas?

Re: Bad electrical component?
Dont the at cooler and filter lines run under the starter on the frame rail. Maybe you broke a line or a hose clamp is loose.

Yeah, the cooler lines run in that vicinity.
