What's this?

Post by ej22tVermont »

So I just got my car back from the shop for a transmission rebuild 1994 SS. Upon receiving the car and getting it home to do some other springtime maintenance things I saw a few things that were different. The shop seemed to break a few small clips here and there, broke an exhaust bolt at the turbo and left it that way, forgot to tighten the control arm bolts, and.... left one stray wire sticking up. the wire was stripped like it was connected to something, but I am unable to figure out where. Pics are here http://imgur.com/a/Pb5zj It comes out of a wire harness under the dog bone. The reason for so much concern is that the car has been running in limp mode with low boost, then returns to normal running mode at any given moment. Very unpredictable. Before I brought it in it was running perfect. It is an auto if it helps.

Where does that wire go? Does it go into a wiring harness, if so, which one? It kind of looks like it may be a ground between the trans & chassis.

Have you checked the ECU or TCU for codes or done the active diagnostic? That would be my first suggestion.

My first thought is "knock sensor wire," but you should check codes to see what the ecu thinks is wrong like Josh said.

My 1st thought was take it back and say FIX IT....they messed it up and you probably paid more for the rebuild than I did for my last Subaru. (BTW, I'm not suggesting to be a 'dik' about it...just firm/assertive to get your point across.)

They need to fix the bolt @ the turbo, ensure ALL the others are torqued to spec, and diagnose the car's driving issues.

Don't forget to call the BBB if you don't get a good response.

+1 that's a horrible business and after you get them to fix your car, don't ever do business with them again. I think you should get in contact with the BBB either way.

Thanks for the responses, it was indeed a transmission to chassis ground that they "forgot" to put back on. They are fixing the other stuff, and I found a loose vac line near that vicinity that seemed to be causing the fail safe mode... I think anyway, since it has yet to go back into fail safe. I will not be doing business there again, nor would I ever recommend them to anybody.

I think I am all good, now that I am doing the repairs. I got her out of safe mode and now she is pulling hard again. Still a shitty situation to be a part of, hope few others ever have to deal with this kind of crap. Either way I can now focus on some other things in my life. Thanks for the offer though!
