what all can make a ecu go bad

well the shop narrowed it down to a bad ecu. 3 days of testing the wires and sensors. plus the fact no matter what the codes would not clear out. and yes josh i gave them your info on clearing codes and that didnt help either. they also said it kept popping up new codes every time they started the car. what would cause a ecu to go crazy like that

Not only are the ecu 20 years old but also very sensitive and finicky like most women

true lol. i just hope your ecu fixes my issues other wise i gotta sell it or part it out to buy another car. i rather have my tw for the room i need
