Problems with tranny swap

Post by Dherzog88 »

So I just swapped a 90 fwd tranny for a 95 awd tranny in my 1990 fwd legacy wagon and i have third and 4th gear. 1-3 can be achieved by manually shifting and it won't upshift on its own in Drive, my speedometer also decided to stop working after the swap, I was wondering if anyone else has had this same problem before any help would be much appreciated thanks!

Are you positive the tranny was good before you replaced it? Or did you buy it used but someone said it worked? Also I think that the VSS on the 95 changed, so it might not be compatible with your speedo.

Welcome to the BBS.

You need to get the speedo working. The engine & trans computers will do some very weird things if the speedo doesn't work. Check the base piece where the speedo connects to the trans. It typically goes bad and is pretty inexpensive to replace.

So fixed the speedometer and in that my transmission works now, I was wondering does anyone happen to know where to get a inline transmission filter its located by my radiator I went to orieleys and they didn't have one, so any suggestions where I can pick one up at or if a generic one would work for my car?
