Hi from UK and Turbo Wagon Buying Advice

Post by Pad »

Hi all,

Just a quick hello as I reckon I am going to be using this resource a bit in the future.. I am Pad and live in the South-East of England, I currently own a Nissan Skyline R32 GTS Turbo but somehow my wife managed to get pregnant so I need something more practical.... but still have to have my speed fix, so I have decided to get a Legacy 4 Cam Turbo (Wagon), about '93-'95, just depends on what comes up.

Did they sell the 4 Cam in the US? If so, can anyone give me any buying advice, what to look out for etc...

I gather there are a few brits on here as well? I dont seem to see much about Legacys on the Brit forums so thought I would look here...

Anyways, look forward to hearing from you,
Pad

Welcome,

No the US didn't get the 4cam motors.

There are some brits on here, so they may be able to help you out.

Hiya and welcome! I'm in the UK and have a 4-cam estate. I don't think it'll compare to a Skyline for performance but I have a 2-year old son and he thinks it's GREAT! Loads of space, plenty fast enough for our gatso-equipped roads and a real sleeper (mine has no badges...)

First, don't get hung up on 4-cam and non-4-cam in the UK - the 92-94 turbo Legs are all 4-cam. Don't worry too much about mileage - condition is ALL. Try and get some kind of decent service history. They don't need much servicing (major service every 15k) and they last and last. I have 185k on mine and it still runs great.

Check the body, especially door bottoms, front wings, along the top edge of the windscreen - these are all the places where mine is starting to rust. Try and get aircon if you can - it was a factory option in the UK and it will make a difference in the summer. The only other options are metallic paint and leather upholstry but these are down to personal taste. I think you'll struggle to get one with all three options, the leather being particularly rare over here.

They turn up quite often on ebay, but if you look on the Autotrader you're going to have to search countrywide in all probability.

I guess you'll be one of the few to see a reduction in insurance premium... :D

Let us know how you get on with the search!

I can't believe you guys tolerate those gatsos. I don't think that would fly here... I mean, we kicked you guys out over tea tax for cryin' out loud! Just playin' with you guys. The lazy scared people here now wouldn't get off the couch to save their right to free speech.

Thanks for the replies everyone...

Crazy to change the R32? I know, its not good but needs must I am afraid. The insurance and general running costs are too much for me to swallow when I have a kid on the way. And there isnt much room for all the junk that I will have to be carting around!!

I am really looking forward to getting the legacy though, it will be nice to have some useable power, as the Skyline is a straight 6 2.0 turbo it is not the torquiest of motors and RWD only with no traction control means that you have to dawdle in the wet....

I have found a couple in the Autotrader with low mileage and FSH for about £2.5K, thats about what I am willing to spend (once the Skyline is sold).

As for GATSOS, dont even get me started..... :x

Cheers all,
Pad
