My dome isn't working on the auto position. Doors are open and it doesn't turn on. When i switch it to the on position it works. Help please.

Re: dome light help
In the auto position the dome light goes through the gauge cluster where it shows the doors are open. If the gauge cluster is out or something isn't working associated with that, the dome light in the auto position may not work.

Re: dome light help
door switches need to have clean grounds on the mounting screws at the door jam to work properly
often times you will find the rubber stopper missing on the door or the switch rubber covers get damages and jam the switch

Re: dome light help
When I did my 6spd swap I had the gauge cluster out. With the gauge cluster out the dome light did not work with the doors. If your dome light works in the ON position, but not the doors, I would suspect the issue is related to the gauge cluster setup.
Have you done anything with the gauge cluster or are using a different gauge cluster? Do you have an auto or manual trans?

Re: dome light help
Our cars (or at least mine) don't have a screw that mounts the trigger to indicate if the door is open or closed. It's just a plastic body with said button that just pops into the hole where it's mounted, i.e. it's a 2 wire button. Depressed it completes the circuit and pressed the circuit is open and not making contact.diesel devil wrote:door switches need to have clean grounds on the mounting screws at the door jam to work properly

Re: dome light help
I have a 94 but I had to put a 92 cluster on it cause my 94 cluster broke. But I decide to cut the wires going to the dome light.(don't ask why. Stupid thinking on my part) so after I soldered the wires back together it no long worked. So I don't know. That's what started all this.Legacy777 wrote:When I did my 6spd swap I had the gauge cluster out. With the gauge cluster out the dome light did not work with the doors. Re: dome light help
Are you sure you got the wires soldered back together properly?
Do you still have the 92 cluster?
Do the door indicator lights in the cluster work? If you open the driver's door, does it show that in the gauge cluster?

Re: dome light help
Yeah still on there. Works fine. All doors indicators work, on all 4 doors it shows open when openLegacy777 wrote:Are you sure you got the wires soldered back together properly?

Re: dome light help
Hmm....well since it happened after those two events, gauge cluster change out and the wiring getting cut, it's likely one of those two things. If you're absolutely 100% positive the wiring was reconnected properly, then it's likely something to do with the gauge cluster.
I know there were some wiring differences between the years, but don't know for sure if there's any difference between the 92 & 94. I think to troubleshoot it further, you'd have to pull the gauge cluster and do some checking on the wiring from the gauge cluster to the dome light to make sure that's good. If so, then we'd need to figure out the differences in the 94 cluster so you can repin your harness to match the 94.

Re: dome light help
Well the 92 cluster worked fine with the dome light, up to until cut them.Legacy777 wrote:Hmm....well since it happened after those two events, gauge cluster change out and the wiring getting cut, it's likely one of those two things. Re: dome light help
Ok, then it's something with the wiring or how they were connected back together.

Well I solder them back together excalty the same. I'm going to redo them tomorrow. I'll take a video if it still doesn't work so you can see.Legacy777 wrote:Ok, then it's something with the wiring or how they were connected back together.

Re: dome light help
Hmmm
Do you have a multi meter or test light? I would suggest checking the wiring with the multimeter. The black wire with white stripe should have 12v going to it. The black wire should be providing a ground when a door is open. You can check this by checking the resistance from the wire to a known good ground.
When you do the checks, check before and after the connection point.

Re: dome light help
Well tested it today. I think it might be the switch that's bad. When I tested. On the "on" position it gave my 11.6 volts. On the "auto" position, it gave me 0.003 volts, and on the "off" position it gave 11.6 volts again. I don't know what to do nowLegacy777 wrote:Hmmm
