EJ 22T fuel cut at 3-5 lbs. boost

Post by S Webster »

Hi. folks. I'm workin' on my 88GL10T - EJ22T swap. It runs and sounds great, as long as you don't offer it any boost. At 3 to 5 lbs. it hits a full fuel cut. Back out just a little and it's back to runnin' smoothly. I've posted it over at the USMB, but the more heads the better. I'm rinning a manual boost controller, so that's out of the equation. I've got the pres. sens. and solenoid hooked up. I switched out the ecu. with a spare, but no gain. Josh (777) and others suggest the speed sens., and I've tapped that ecu lead into the EA ecu plug, which I thot' should feed it, but not sure. I haven't been able to get the CEL lite' to work, and Josh tells me to hook up a test lite to see if I can read the codes. I'm headin' out to try that now. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks, Steve.

Double check your hoses to the boost controller.

Thanks Tony, but I don't think it's there. It's a manual controller with new silicon hoses and clamps. It makes a ton of boost, the problem is the fuel cut, kills the fuel flow completely and it falls on it's face. Back out just a bit and it runs smoothly again. I'm gonna' try dropping the boost to see if it will offer more rpms and see how it runs. I haven't been able to get a useable CEL signal. I hooked up my test lite up, powered to the ecu lead, as per Josh's,(777) instruction, but disapointing results. With Ign. sw. on, not running, lite stays lit. Ign. on and running, no lite at all. Frustrating. Thanks again, Steve.

HI,
Just another idea - Knock Sensor? It'll cause limp mode and limit boost if not working/hooked up.

Steve,

Did you connect the diagnostic connectors when you had the test light hooked up? What you described sounds like normal operation of the CEL with the key in the ON position and the diagnostic connectors not hooked up.

Thanks Guys. I hadn't thot' about the knock sens., it is hooked up, but not sure if it's good or not. I'll ck. that out. Josh, Don't think I did, good call. I'm so burned out on this, been over a month on this eng. maneg. thing. If it had a disty., I'd brake out Miller and tig up a carb, manifold. At this point I've just backed boost controller down to 3 psi. and it runs pretty good, but just a small insite' to how it could run. I've got to get back to makin' a living, and this is my daily tool hauler. Thanks again fellas. Steve.
