Clutch to the floor

Post by slipknot51 »

So I recently just finished up a engine swap into a 92 legacy turbo. The car already had a 99 2.5 rs 5 speed swapped with master and slave swapped as well. Here is the deal when I bought the car I noticed that the clutch would disengage fully and would engage maybe a 1/2 inch or less off the floor and I had a lot of extra movement in the petal after. Once I swap the engines I noticed that I have to push the clutch almost thru the floor board to get the clutch to disengage enough to put the car into gear. I have bleed, bleed, and again bleed the clutch until I had no bubbles in my catch bottle(got good at pulling and installing my Intercooler though). I compressed the slave with a c-clamp several times and bleed again still same issues. I am wondering if it could be a issues with either the clutch master or slave cylinder.

You might have a bad slave cylinder. My last leggy had a leaking one I think, cause I would always lose fluid but never to the ground, I think it leaked internally. The pedal would stick halfway and then get so bad it wouldn't even engauge at one point till I filled it and bled it like 40 times. Seriously takes like a shit load of bleeding to get it back..

Yeah, I would agree that you may have an issue with either the slave or master. If you know everything else is good, that's the only thing left.

Well installed the new master and slave cylinder bench bleed both the system and them installed and bleed again pedel felt allot better then it did before, but still same issues with not allowing me to put the car in gear. I adjusted the master cylinder fork where its meets up to the pedal all the way out and seems to put slight pressure on the master cylinder. By doing this it does allow the clutch to fully disengage to allow me to get into gear with out grinding. Ive noticed a nice squeaking noise coming from the transmission once the clutch is fully engaged(pedal all the way out) and goes away once the clutch is disengaged(pedal all the way in) it doesn't slip while it is squeaking I'm guessing its had to do with something with the throw out bearing . Any ideas

Have you pulled the boot off the clutch fork opening to look down in the hole to see if you see anything out of place?

No not yet ill have to stop over where the car is located and take a look to see if anything is wrong. I wonder if i bunged up the throw out bearing when i swap the engines over its making one heck of a racket

Well looked down the hole where the clutch fork is and didn't see any issues. Thinking it was a throw out bearing issue pulled the transmission and lowered it down out of the way. I found almost half the pressure plate fins where bent and the throw out bearing had some play in it. So i guess its time for a new pressure plate and throw out bearing just am going to order up the a new clutch kit
