Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
I changed out my plugs the other day, ended up gapping them too low and had way too much hesitation, so i pulled them out and raised the gap. I was just trying to experiment with gap. It didn't like .30
Last night I installed my intake piece. took about 3 hours to get it done along with 2 ecu resets and messing with the purge solenoid.
Old setup just didn't look good to me, and my iac line was kinked.

New intake piece, some left over aluminum pipe i have from something else and the uppipe to head brackets.

install (not many pics, i know...)

end result for now, I need to replace some of the hoses.

I'm going to track down a wrx power steering pump and lines, they're fairly priced used on ebay. I didn't do the turbo brackets yet because the larger bracket is a pain in the ass to get in between the bell housing and turbo. when i rebuild my td05, i'll just do them then.
Anyways, that's it for now. Gotta get ready to head up to woodinville soon. Gonna go visit the Redhook brewery for some lunch!

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
After 150 miles of driving today, I have full boost with very minimal hesitation. I dont know if it was the plugs or the manifold gaskets, but shes fun to drive now. My plugs are at .41 ngk iridiums. My off boost power is almost fully restored...

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
Yeah, only because we have 4....
Anyways I'm getting some hesitation again, NOWHERE near as bad... I've been telling myself I need to check my timing and see if I may just be a tooth off, but now I know I need to.
Here's the symptom. When I floor it, it'll be sluggish for 1, maybe 2, seconds and then it's like hitting NOS. Instantly catches boost and you feel it just like that.
Right now I'm back in safe mode, but intermittently this time, literally it's random.
I have been getting a maf code off and on, and I've swapped out my maf a couple times, I have 2 known good maf sensors. I've cleaned both of them with maf cleaner. I feel like all the vibrations from my stiff suspension, and modifications to my harness from when I had my SAFCII, I'm leaning more towards just replacing the maf harness all the way to the ecu, or for an even better piece of mind, swapping out my harness for this N/A harness and converting it to a turbo harness by adding the boost sensors and swapping the cam and crank signal wires.
If I just swap the cam and crank signal wires, am I still able to use my SS engine harness (yes the plugs are the same shape (rectangular)) Or would I have to just get the N/A engine harness?

Check and make sure that there is no play in the crank gear on the woodruff key.
As for the crank/cam sensors, they are identical between the non-turbo & turbo models.

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
What about the engine harness, should I buy an n/a harness to go along with my n/a front harness?

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
What harness do you have in the car now? I would get a harness to match whatever is in or whatever you plan to put in. The plugs behind the battery are really what will dictate what you use.
You can always relocate the coolant temp sensor wiring to the driver's side.
If that's not what you were asking for clarification on, let me know.

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
Right now its all turbo legacy. What I didnt know is if the turbo engine harness is compatible with the n/a front chassis harness. The plugs are the same.

Which harness are you referring to when you say "front chassis harness"? Where does the harness connect up to the main harness?

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
Eh, I guess thats a little confusing. I am talkong about the ecu to engine-harness wiring that plugs in behind the battery, I.e. the 3 square plugs I mentioned above.

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
The turbo legacy engine harness uses three plugs, two square and one round. I would suggest getting a non-turbo engine harness to match the chassis harness and then just relocate the coolant temp sensor wiring to the driver's side. You just have to take the wiring loom off and move those wires. You don't even have to cut them, just fold them over since they'll just be longer. That is what I did when I did my swap.

Re: CJ's Prefaced 92 SS build...
My 91 turbo harness does not have a round plug. I have 2square and 1 rectangle. I believe that was 91 specific. Ill look at the girlfriends 93 and my other 91 tomorrow.
