So I had an oil squirter work loose and bang around inside the block so I decided to do a rebuild fearing bottom end damage. I got a beautiful low mileage crank with the rods still assembled. Also bought some new main bearings. Plastigauged the clearances and everything was within spec. Then came the issue. I let my pride get the best of me and attempted honing the cylinders on my own without having done it before. Needless to say it didn't turn out very well. One or two cylinders turned out pretty decent, but I used the stones instead of the balls so I am not happy with the consistency, the angle of the crosshatch, and in one cylinder I am concerned I removed too much material. At this point I'm thinking my safest bet is taking it to a machine shop and letting them take care of it. What I'm wondering is, can I bore to .010-030 over and get oversize piston rings for the stock pistons? Or once you bore over, do you have to get pistons that match?
Thanks in advance.

I've yet to see the oil squirter coming loose really detonate anything. Not that you want to simply ignore it, though. You will want to get the pistons to give to the machine shop so they can get the clearance right. Wiseco sells oversized ones and there may be someone else who will make them to spec for you.

Yeah, once you bore or oversize the block, you will need matching pistons. Depending on the wear in the block, even just a light hone can take the tolerances outside of what Subaru recommends for the bore.
