Is it worth deleting second cat in mid pipe? Opinions please

Post by scoobydoo94turbo »

Hey guys I need your opinion, I have a 94 legacy turbo wagon with ej22t, engine is stock although I do have mbc running at 10psi... I currently have an STI muffler on her and im looking for a bit more noise..

During a duty c replacement I noticed my second cat in the mid pipe was somewhat collapsed or caved in, for $25 I can purchase a pipe spreader and a piece of pipe to put in place, I have access to a welder at work so that's no problem!

I believe this will allow me to get the sound I want and might actually gain me a tiny bit of performance depending on how plugged or caved in the second cat is.. Correct?

Opinions would be much appreciated!

I can confirm that removing second cat definitely makes it louder and more free flowing.

If the cat is caved in at all, its a good idea to remove it anyway. And I too can confirm that removing a cat adds a bit sound of sound.

I thought that the unit in the midpipe was as resonator and not a cat. I was under the impression the cat is only in the DP....I cannot verify for 100% since I do not have a stock exhaust hanging out.

Its been a while, but when I took my stock system off I was pretty sire it was two cats and a muffler no resonator.

Just to summarize, I am very happy with my set up now, stock exhaust setup but I have cut out second cat and im running an 04 sti muffler, sounds great! Not to loud not to quiet, very nice rumble and all was done for under $100, aprox 3 hrs labour, $50 for muffler and $10 for a piece of pipe, $25 for pipe expander and a couple hours of welding and cutting..
