FOG LIGHT MOUNTING FRONT BUMPER L-WAGON

Post by Yamagata »

Hi.

I searched and searched this forum and others and have not found an answer to my question.

How are you guys mounting fog lights to your front bumpers? Not JDM style, just plain old fog lights or driving lights. PIAA, HELLA, BAJA any brand - Round or Rectangular. My wagon is heading up the mountain so I want lights that put out volume to cut through, rain, fog and thick snow.

I pulled the plastic skin off of my bumper to access the steel bumper. I had assumed the bumper would be like most other bumpers, a stamped U shape. But Subaru's bumper is a box. There is no access to the inside.

Drilling a simple hole to push a bolt through wont work, cause you cant get the nut and lock washer on it.

I've seen photos of off road lights, and driving lights, but no one has shared how they actually got the job done.

Lets see some fog light pics and a brief explanation of how you installed them.

Thanks!!

Here's how I have mine mounted. There's 2 tabs for the lower mounting of the bumper cover. I enlarged those holes and bolted these slight 'S' shaped metal brackets to the core support. Large washers to spread out the load, and lock nuts to hold on tight.

You can use sheet metal screws to hold smaller lights to the bumper beam.

Additionally, the metal in the bumper is pretty beefy, so you might be able to drill and tap it as well for a bolt.
