Trial and error brother, worst thing that can happen is you have some stuff to list for sale because it didn't work for your specific application.

One problem I encountered with my setup (22t t.b. flipped upside down with 1/4" aluminum spacer) is my throttle plate would get stuck on the conpressor outlet coupler. Caused the car to get stuck at wot a couple times when I floored it. Got me a rod knock.

Be sure to check your clearences there.

I think this may be the case, but as CJ mentioned it's a bit of trial and error to see if it'll fit.

Well the vf8 has been purchased waiting on shipping.

Mike, if I do go with the v3/v4 intercooler you wouldn't be interested in selling that v4 bpv would you? I'm in contact with the seller to get some measurements of the tmic. I've got the 20h manifold in my car now with my high comp ej22d so it won't be too hard to get a good idea if it will fit.

Thanks for the tip on the throttle linkage CJ, I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Ah linkage* good catch. I can see how that can be misleading to a board member that doesn't know much about cars yet.

For everyone else's refference, I was talking about the half moon shaped plates the throttle and cruise cables attach to at the throttle body.

I had to go back and re-read what you originally wrote to even catch what you did lol. I've been doing it long enough to visualize the area and know what you meant lol.

Yes sir.

Nothing to do with this build but it's really frustrating to me a lot of the misinformation about certain subaru motors that has circulated over the last decade that nobody really bothers to try to correct.

So I did some playing around with some spare throttle bodies today. I got apart a 20k throttle body and one of my 4 1st gen 22e throttle bodies. I think I've stumbled onto something, the short shaft on the 22e tb that actually moves the butterfly is the perfect length for a single throttle linkage from the 20k tb and the closer spring. I also decided I'm extremely lucky because on the second assembly try the 22e tps actually lines up perfect with the mount holes and doesn't point backwards into the manifold. Still need to get my multimeter back from my friend who doesn't know how to return shit in a timely manner so I can see if I can get the adjustment worked out without making an adapter for the tps. But if this works out its very good news as this tb is a full inch shorter than the usdm ones I have laying around so no worries about tmic fitment, and it's made for the manifold so no flipping and spacers for linkages to clear. Pics to come later if this actually pans out!

No progress has been made so far, bled my nephew's brakes Sunday evening and found he had a wheel bearing about to fall completely apart so yesterday was spent in a junkyard looking for a good knuckle because he's on a college kid budget lol.

Great idea in theory, and actually everything bench tested great as far as voltage and adjustment with the 1st gen tps. The failure occurred when I test fitted the throttle body to the manifold. That short throttle shaft ended up being too short and the linkage made contact with the manifold at about 25% opening, and it was nowhere near lined up with the cable bracket.

Options now are trying the ej18 throttle shaft, but it is a good bit larger in diameter than what goes in the 20k tb. So it would have to be drilled out to fit, but I'm not a big fan of this idea.
And then we have the prospect of using a complete 20k tb, and using a microswitch to emulate the idle switch that's missing from the newer tps. I've got plenty of stuff to play with and nothing but time, so we'll see what I come up with.
