Help me identify my EJ22 please!

Post by Sublimejoe »

I finalllllllly got my replacement motor to my house last night and had a chance to look at it. I got a ton of parts included which is super rad! Now I just want to try and figure out what year this motor is from and any other info. I looked all over the block and took photos of anything I thought may help, so onto the photos:

Looking at the orientation of the injectors (slanted inwards), the hitachi coil pack, and three-wire rotary idle air control valve this engine came from a 90 or 91 Legacy with automatic trans.

Awesome! So that should make things easier when installing into my 93 auto right?

Also, since its out of the car anyway I guess I am going to go ahead and rebuild the motor. I called a few machine shops today and was quoted about $300 to clean the block and hone the cylinders. Does that sound like a reasonable deal?

I would recommend using the entire 93 intake manifold. The injectors are different and the electrical plugs behind the battery could be different (3 square plugs vs. 2 square plugs). Just using the 93 intake manifold makes it easier.

That sounds ok, but it's been a while since I've had any machine shop work done so hopefully others can chime in.

Shops around me would charge half that, but it all comes down to location.
