Smellin gas

Post by THAWA »

Still on my list of things to fix is this obnoxious smell of gas when I start up the car after it's sit for a while. I changed the fuel filter in late sept/early oct. so I don't think that's the problem. I'm pretty sure the smell is coming from the front area, but I can't pinpoint it. Is there anything that's usually the culprit for smelling? Or could it just be old lines or something like that? TIA :D

Check your lines for leaks and if they look brittle, change them. Look for any wet spots too. You may not see that so look for stains. I had to change a couple fuel lines, and then later smelled fuel and found that one of my lines had loosened up. It was dripping gasoline onto the side of my intake. I'm glad I cought that right away.

When we changed the fuel filter, we had to take the back seat back out and drive it around for 10 minutes to air out the residual fuel in the air. Then it was okay.
