Are you meaning force them to turn out of sequence?
I didn't want to break the damn thing and just leaving the air compressor go wasn't too bad. It was pretty much a set it and forget it thing

that works too. But that's what i did with my cluster when i did my turbo swap. never had problems, been several years since...

Just shy of two hours, however I just left it running in the garage while I went back in the house

Re: Electronic Legacy gauge cluster into a US Legacy
Hey Josh, now that I have my car up and running I might start looking into installing mine. However what is the cheapest/easiest way to get it to work? I am sure I will be getting a ROBTune ECU at some point so the Link ECU wouldn't make any sense for me to get.

Re: Electronic Legacy gauge cluster into a US Legacy
All you really need to do is put in an electronic speed sensor, and run the output to the gauge cluster & ECU. What I'd do is just run the wiring to the gauge cluster and tie into the existing VSS output wiring to the ECU.
The main issue though is there is no way to calibrate the speedo to the output pulse of the VSS. You may get lucky and it be close, but it may not be any where near close.

Re: Electronic Legacy gauge cluster into a US Legacy
Yeah, you really do need a way to adjust the pulse output from the speed sensor to the gauge and the ECU in order for everything to work properly. So:
1. Identify stock pulse per mile from cluster to ECU
2. Identify pulse per mile requirement of electronic speedometer
3. Identify pulse per mile output from whatever speed sensor you use
4. Buy or build a box that will adjust the PPM of the sensor to what is required for the speedo and ECU, which are hopefully the same requirement. If they are very different, you would need two interface boxes.
If all went absolutely perfectly, the three pulse per mile numbers would be equal and you could just wire everything up and have it be good. That is definitely a possibility, however chances are you would need some way to adjust it.

Josh,
How much was yours off when you had to calibrate with the LINK. I have the car torn apart again and I am thinking since it is already apart I may attempt it. If it is say 5 mph off, what exactly would the car try and do or not do?

I would inmagine if it was 5 high and you are stopped it would read 5mph but the car wouldn't try and add fuel since the pedal is not pressed.

Oh and I am installing a EJ20 ECU, not sure if that gives me any help

Re: Electronic Legacy gauge cluster into a US Legacy
Tony,
My situation was a little different. I never ran the speed sensor to the gauge cluster to see how it read. I ran the speed sensor directly to the ECU and then ran an output to the gauge cluster. I essentually had to calibrate the speed sensor coming into the ECU and then had to calibrate the output going to the gauge cluster. So I really don't know how much it would be off.
However, the ECU really isn't going to care if you're 5-10 mph off. The ECU mainly uses the speed signal for fan/cooling control. I really don't know of any other specific parameters in the ECU that it affects.
