I wonder, could you be a troll? It happens often on the large boards and I feel you may just be leading us on.

i have trouble believing that some kid whose parents bought him his new performance engine would wander into a 22b engine, and that even after he got it he wouldnt know what it was.

and isnt the pink "teh gh3y?"

oh, and welcome to the bc-bf board.

I seriously doubt you got a 22B engine. Those are collectors cars (only 400) and if somebody crashed it, they would rebuild it. maybe a factory engine, but that would be well over $10Gs because a regular STi RA spec C longblock is like $10Gs.

BTW, pics of the actual block serial numbers would be great, too. I'm not discrediting the fact that you might have gotten a jdm sti, but all of the stis, IIRC, had the red intake manifold.

You might have an sti v4 engine, but I have serious doubts it's a sti v4 22b engine.

I'd be (and I'm sure you would be . . . MORESO) happy to find out if it was, tho.

I have seen a few 22b engines on Yahoo! Japan. So there are some out there.

hope you guys can shed some light on whats going on here
i should note that its realllllllllllyyyyy dirty maybe ill have to clean it up and sake some more but that cover is an annoying bright shade of red when its clean and its red alltheway through(not painted) could it just be somthing added on?...... as for the intake manifoldthe turbo one and the n/a one were slightly different so i replaced it when it was converted and sold it on ebay i started to paint this one red but i figured if it wasnt the real deal then there was no point

It's hard to tell by the photo, but looking at my SOHC covers here, they appear identical but for the color. The main one I can tell from is the shot under the oil filler. The pattern of the cover and the bolt is the same. However, it could still be DOHC if they have the same cover detailing around the edges. I can't tell without seeing of it has 2 or 1 circles embossed per side. If it is solid plastic, that would be weird to be SOHC.

Funny if it's not the original intake manifold.

I'm not trying to be an ass......just curious what exactly are you trying to do? Verify the engine is a certain type or not? I've been gone for a few days and don't have time to read through all the threads.

The engine should have some form of identification on it, which we can use to determine the type.

Or just look at the turbo and tell what the numbers on it are. There should be 3 lines of numbers that will identify the turbo, and form there I can tell what engine it should be. Seeing a pic with the intake and the coilpack could help as well, but I am still confused about this manifold thing. Did you sue your stock manifold? Was the one you sold red, or not? BTW, STi manifolds were not painted until V4. I am not trying to be an ass here, and would happily help you sort this out if you give me a bit more to work with...

Right between the Power steering pump and the alternator, on the engine block itself, there is a code casted in the metal indicating the engine type ...

Look straight where the arrow point on the picture, you'll see a "plug" with a wire.. above it is where the tag is located.

it should read "EJ20" or ... "EJ22" ..

Image

The code is written in the square that is hidden on the picture by the black wire..
