Took my heads in to get resurfaced today. Got them back in less than 5 hours even tho they were fairly busy.

Pacific Engine and Machine in Tacoma off 112th and Golden Given is where I went. Great work. Cost 88 bucks out the door without a wash.

Ok so this is long over due, mostly because I'm a busy guy. BUT I finally made some more progress on my wrx swap.

I've gone back and forth on compression stuff lately and it's detoured me off and on about pistons and heads. My heads ( WRX EJ205 ) have the infamous spark plug cracks that you see on just about any head these days. It set me back mentally, but F it. I just wanna get this thing back on the road and I have bigger plans in the future.

Pistons. Well shit, this is going to be a low compression build unfortunately.... 7.51:1 to be exact. Off boost power is going to be shit, but that GT28 will pick up for that with it's tiny TD04 sized exhaust housing and being ball bearing will help as well.

I've been doing A LOT of research in the last couple weeks and I think I found my dream engine I ant to build.

I want to do an EJ22 with 207 heads.

If I can accomplish my current build, then the options are there. This build will get me closer as well.

So back to the original start of this thread, I got the heads mounted and cams and buckets and yada yada.....

What turbo coolant pipe and water crossover are those? They aren't WRX units, will they work with an under manifold inlet? I haven't followed your builds over the years so I don't know if you've used them like that before.

I think off-boost power won't be too bad, half a point of compression isn't that noticeable so it should drive similarly to a stock EJ22t off boost.

That's a 25d cross over . The pipe is a twin turbo pipe from my old motor. I just cut the tabs off of it.

I appreciate that, but I want my own. I have put so many engines together in the last year, I think it's time to invest.

I planned on buying some in the first week of this month, but my parents had present day ( they don't celebrate holidays ) so most of my recent money went to that.

What brand tools are you getting? I have a full set of the Company 23 tools, they are awesome. I highly recommend them. Of course, I've never used the factory tools...

Ordered the Company 23 Cam tool yesterday. Glad it's going to be here soon. Also have some weldless TGV delete plates coming in the mail as well as some exhaust manifold gaskets and new top feed O rings and filters.

This is getting close...

Yesterday morning I got to play with some TGV stuff. I gutted the flaps, dont need them and the tuner will delete the codes for me, or I can buy the cable and do it myself.

Here's the dumb flap that needs to go away.

Image

Gotta drill out the screw heads, You can't just unscrew these screws, I thought it was just build up on the threads but I was wrong.

Image

It seems as tho Subaru installs the flaps and then smashes the end of the threads as some sort of "Don't remove these" deal.

Image

So drilling the heads off the screws and removing the threads like this is how they come out.

Image

Flaps out. 3 more to go.

Image

Here you can see the threads, the bottoms are smashed a little. I know you cant see it too well in the pictures but where you can see the fresh metal from me grabbing them with pliers.

Image

Had to hit the opposite end of the rods with a hammer a couple of time to get them out.

Image

All done!

The screw ends are smashed flat to keep the screws from backing out and being ingested by the motor. Nissans for a few years had that problem, but it seems Subaru's method was smarter because I've never heard of a WRX ingesting a TGV screw. You can file off the end of the screw that's smashed and then back them out normally with a screwdriver.

Yeah I saw something about that over on nasioc, but I knew drilling out the heads of the screws would be faster. If my wife wasn't sleeping, I would have drilled out the whole screw instead of part of it and then using pliers. Priorities. ..

Forgot to mention I got an svx fwd non abs master cylinder in the mail too.

I'm excited about my progress.
