F-N code 45

Post by dscoobydoo »

The car has a gremlin.
I get a code 45 only when it is cold and wet outside.

The car does not get wet underhood, but the code only comes on when it is cold and raining or very humid outside.

I reset the code both ways ( fuse and d-check)
but I keep getting it ONLY when it is wet outside.

I can pull out of the garage, and in about 5 minutes, I get the code.

IT has just started happening this last month.

What've you done to upset the automotive electrical gods?
Have you tried a known good solenoid and verified good ground contacts?

Check the MAP sensor for cracks. Test the exchange solenoid too.

I read up on that link. Sadly, I have a 6 wire extra grounding kit. I replaced the knock sensor last year.

I took the sensor pack from the project car, and it did the same thing.

Electrical gremlins are so hard to find/fix.

When you get the code, have you stopped, unplugged the MAP & pressure exchange solenoid to test their resistance?

That should help tell you whether the probably is related to the wiring or the sensor.

I guess I will do that, but it always happens at the most inopportune times.

That's the only way you're going to be able to track the problem down.

I think it might be the FCD- because it has been giving me boost cut at the strangest times. Also, that is the only part of the harness that has been changed.

Need to find a new FCD to use

Reviving old thread because I have code 45.

The FSM page about this is hosted on Josh's site is here.

So it sounds like to check the pressure sensor you need to apply 5 volts to it and then apply vacuum to it?

And that the resistance on the exhange solenoid should be ~37-48 ohms?

Hoping that someone can confirm I am reading those directions correctly.

Also hoping someone can confirm the resistance for the MAP sensor, since I'm having trouble finding that in the resources....

Thanks but my exchange solenoid is reading ~42 so it seems like I am right in spec on that component.

So I guess deduction says I need to check the pressure sensor itself, and possibly the wiring to/from the ECU...

Hi,
Is the RobTune new to this car or it's been working fine and started throwing the code?

If new, I apologize if this is 'old news' and you've been there/done that, but the RT requires this:

Wiring
.......the MAP sensor also needs addressed. Otherwise, it'll throw a code - 45. The solution is to remove pin 5 on B48 and join it with pin 21 on B48 @ the ECU connector.

Yup, that was the issue!

I was in there cleaning up all the wires from the previous swap, but somehow missed this step.

I joined B48.5 to B48.21 and BLAM, CEL is gone!!!

It feels so good to have a dash with no trouble lights again, and I'm sure my mileage will agree now that I'm out of limp mode!

Thanks for sharing, TD

The RobTune install information is really spread out, but it is in here

Glad you got it figured out Andrew. Good catch by Todd.

Just FYI, the info on the MAP sensor ground wiring is described much more clearly in my thread; Adapting an EJ20G ECU

Thanks Rob, we appreciate your continued support.

In that swap thread, you discuss a MT/AT identifier pin with Josh. I'm curious if they will apply to my ecu/harness since I have a manual transmission in a car that was auto from the factory.

I asked the question in that thread for continuity.
