I am currently in the process of strategy preparation for a 4ETA to 5mt swap on my 93 Turbo Wagon.
Since I am running a Haltech Standalone ECU, there is no communication to the TCM.
I had an idea of starting to swap the systems and retain the car as a daily driver. I mainly want to stage the swap because the tranny and rear diff swap are already a fairly big project.....especially if the rear hub bolts prove to be a rusty bitches.
I was thinking of installing the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder and the manual pedals while still 4EAT. The only problem I see is the solenoid to release the Park shifter position when the brake is pressed. I would manually override this until the swap is complete.
Let me know if you guys identify any other constraints with this approach.

Re: Idea to stage a 4EAT to 5mt swap
The button that releases that switch is just the brake light switch, its there on the manual cars too and will function the same if you don't change the wiring of the shift lock system while you're down there.
Otherwise, I see no issue with this. Other than a clutch pedal that will sit at the floor and a narrow brake pedal in an auto that might feel wierd, lol. I had a very un-fun time swapping pedals, so I can see some appeal in slitting the projects.

The brake pedal plug looks like it is the same.
I have not located the connectors for the clutch pedal....

Now that I think about it, there won't be connectors for the clutch switch on the AT harness if I recall. I believe I jumped the pins at the trans so it starts with the clutch engaged. The only real downside is the cruise won't disengage when you press the clutch.

To keep cruise you need to add the wiring for the clutch pedal and MT cruise computer.

That I couldn't tell you, but more than likely it'll fit fine.

Re: Idea to stage a 4EAT to 5mt swap
I just have a memory of one of the bolts or studs not fitting. At the time I imagined it had something to do with the DBW throttle cable, but I don't imagine they redesigned the clutch and brake set. Or did they.

Re: Idea to stage a 4EAT to 5mt swap
From memory, you dont need to change the entire pedal box, just the pedals themselves. I wouldnt be sure about the newer pedal fitting though.
IMO it's a swap that can be done in a day if you set your mind to it, just make sure you have all the parts.
With some effort the rear diff can be removed without undoing the hub/suspension bolts. That said, make sure whatever rear diff you swap to, you also have the matching rear shafts. I'm sure I recall early legacy being different to a lot of the Imprezas.

Welcome to the BBS.
Are you referring to swapping from AT to MT? If so, the pedal box where the pedals connect to are different and need to be swapped.
Here is the AT brake pedal box.
