Help with my parts car

Post by QuickDrive »

Well, Lets have a little story first.

I unexpectedly was layed off from my job, and have no other jobs lined up atm, with that I have to move, and with that I have to start tearing down my 92 Turbo for parts in the morning

(god bless above 0 weather for the week)

Anyway, my questions are, what's worth stripping that people would possibly need to buy or I should/would need to keep....

I'm having a local garage haul the engine and tranny for me, the guy said he might be able to do it.

I'd like to keep the tranny for a spare but would it be worth it to haul it around from location to location with me?

How would I go about removing the ECU and Wiring harness safely? Does haynes have any instructions on that.

I'm kind of a greenhorn with under the hood mechanics of this car still, and all around cars at that.

I do believe someone has called dibs on the seatbelts.

Does anyone else want anything?

Any help at all would be very appreciated.

Keep the brakes. Id assume it doesnt have LSD. The leather wrapped shifter is interesting. Horizontal adjusting headrests?

I say remove the engine COMPLETE, dont even remove the accessories. Get an old tire without a rim, they work well to help support the engine. Keep the exhaust downpipe forward (forget the rest). Keep the TCU and ECU.

For the most part you can remove the entire engine by only disconnecting 5? wire/connectors and 4 hoses.

The brakes are in poor shape, the car has 300,000 kms on it

Calipers work ok I assume rotors are done...
both front and rear.

When I remove the engine I'll be putting it on a pallette ready to ship hopefully, otherwise it's going to a junker... :(

Thanks for the info.

The Headrests aren't horrizontal adjusting and it's an auto.

any other tips, keep em coming. this is my first car rip apart operation

Sorry to hear about your job. :(

If the rotors are gone, keep the calipers. The rear calipers (for vented rotors) in particular are rare.

The ABS box under the hood and the computer under the passenger seat might be good spares to keep.

When pulling the engine, be sure to get the sensors and solenoids mounted on the passenger strut tower. There's the pressure sensor, pressure exchange solenoid, and boost control solenoid. Keep the MAF sensor too. Also, the in-tank fuel pump.

If the radiator's in decent shape it might be good to keep with the engine, as the turbo radiator is different from the non-turbo.

Also, of course, hang on to the engine crossmember; it's got the notch in it to clear the downpipe.

If the sunvisors aren't droopy, save them. Every Legacy's visors eventually droop.

Someone would probably want the trunk lid and the hood, or maybe just the spoiler and scoop.

I'm pretty sure the 92 is.. I'll double check though.

My 91 is leather wrapped already, so if it is I won't be keeping it

if its got a moon roof that glass goes for big bucks new and i dont believe is too difficult to pull (comes out as a full assembly with tracks), around 300 US. could probly sell to someone who needed one.

I'd buy all the intake in front of the turbo and the MAP sensor if they're not going with the motor.

They probably will be going with the motor, if the motor goes.

The interior is Grey Jake15

- Exterior color? I could use a new front turbo bumper.

- Engine cover. Oddly, I don't have one.

- What condition is the interior in? Headliner, etc.. I could use a few grey replacement pieces, as it looks no one has a complete black interior for sale.

Seat Belts! Seat Belts! I want the front seat belts, hardware and upper door pillar trim (necessary to install the seatbelts) if the interior is gray!!!!! Also could use the sensor on the passenger strut tower, has a vacuum hose going to it, right on top (pressure sensor) and if the power antennae works I'd like that! Let me know what you can do and how much! :D

Thank!
