Used oem axles for 93 twagon

Post by Hawkfan5676 »

Good morning to all those who may find this,

Wondering if anyone knows where we can find used oem axles this day and age? I’m looking for rears for a 93 turbo wagon with a manual transmission conversion from on 02 Impreza, has a 3.9 final drive. 325,000 on the clock and still ticking along.

I called up cvj, constant velocity in Ocala, and superupair in Colorado, rxaxles is shut down. They will take your current oem axles and rebuild them for 75 bucks plus shipping but no one has any in stock and hadn’t had requests in 15 years. I got lucky and found 1 passenger rear on eBay that will hopefully be the correct one. I’m lighting the beacons of Gondor on this one and hoping someone will have an idea on where to go. Otherwise I’m just going into oreillys and getting a lifetime cheapo and going to get proficient at changing rears like I am at the fronts.

Cheers to all of you still here.

Can’t help but would love to know more about the Impreza AWD conversion. I have been trying to find a gen 1 legacy at a local salvage yard but nowadays they are few and far between, the only one I’ve found in a year was an auto and I want to convert to 5-speed if I’m gonna go that deep into this car. Imprezas and gen 2 outback’s are a lot more common

Well hello!

I can’t help you there either, as I had purchased mine from someone who had already done the swap, so I’m not the knowledgeable one on swapping, I’m sure there’s some build journals in here that outlay some pretty good information on the swaps. I am currently trying to get in contact with someone two owners ago, to find out some more information. I’m looking for a Ryan. But i will ask if he was the one to do the swap and can ask for more information.

I will say the current transmission I have is from a 2005 Impreza rs, I had previously thought it was an 02 but I did some digging and it’s actually a m/y o5. Tranny

Once my trans decides to go I’m considering adding a 6th gear. Not sure how I can help you on the swap but the transmission fits and it’s way better as a manual I would say the swap is absolutely worth it.

Understood, thanks for the follow up, Like a lot of forums they end up cluttered with bad info and I haven’t had time to really dig in and parse a good swap/build thread

I subjected the trakmotive (also rebranded and sold under many brands) heavy duty CV shafts, the ones with the non-plunging CVs on both ends and a separate slip in the shaft to daily abuse (launches, 30mph one wheel peel and then find pavement, etc) for about 3yr before taking that car off the road. Prior to that I had been wasting about one CV a year. I will be running them again when I need to replace CVs in my current driver but at this point I have over 40k on the cheapest CVs money can buy in it and have no reason to believe that will happen soon.
