Does anyone else have this problem?
When I'm sitting at my computer, and listening to techno, or Rob Zombie, or stuff like that, all I can think of is how dissatisfied I feel. It's crazy. I just want to go out and drive the shit out of my car for a few hours. Only at night, when I know that I should be out doing anything else except sitting at home on the computer. It's like I'm waiting for something, that I know is not going to come, it's really sort of upsetting. Do I sound crazy?

I feel like that all the time. Being unemployed sucks and I've been a little depressed which leads to writer's block, so I just sit here watching Sopranos DVDs. I know I should be doing something else.
However, I do drive my car every night. Just got back a short time ago ~1:30 here. Route 127 winds along the coast of Cape Ann from Gloucester to Beverly and its such a great drive with no one on it. Especially with little patches of ice and frozen slush here and there. My car looks forward to it every day, too.

Midnight in a Perfect World on Amazon or order anywhere. The first book in a quartet chronicling the rise of a man from angry criminal to philanthropist. Midnight... is a distopic noirish novel featuring 'Duchess', a modified 1990 Subaru Legacy wagon.

The way you described it relates so closely to my thoughts at times, it's almost creepy. I don't think you're crazy, it's the world we live in today that's nuts. However reading this post does a little in cosoleing me that I'm not the only one. Funny, I'm never much of a "talker" but I actually came back online to reply to this because it struck a chord with me.

Here's a weird evening...
I just hung out with some friends tonight, and then after I got home about 2:15am, for some reason, I just hopped in my XT, drove around a little bit, parked in an empty civic center lot overlooking a small lake and turned everything off, and just sat there for about 20 minutes, thinking about life...

Its too bad we're all scattered too far about the continent to hang out.
I usually stop by the ocean or lighthouses and do the same thing. Sometimes I just look at the stars or the moon.

Yeah I used to do that a lot. I had a good friend when I was younger that we'd often just stair up at the stars and have some pretty deep conversations and contemplations about life.
Most of those moments nowadays bring my thoughts to things that are out of this world or at least looking at life and the spiritual forces that I believe are active in it.

it's funny that most of us do the same thing, I used to just go for drives until my butt hurt, then I'd just sit there until it stopped hurting, thinking about whatever. Sometimes when I come home and just sit in the car to relax, nearly fell asleep many times. I find myself often stopping outside and just looking up in the sky, hoping for something. What I'm looking for I couldn't tell ya but I still do it.

I can totally relate.
I often go for long drives after a long day of work, chasing kids, changing diapers, ect just to think.
I love to stare at the stars and dream of exploring them. I am fascinated with Astrophysics and Sci-fi. I often look for something more then what I see but haven't found anything of substance yet. I really like to stare at fire and think too. I don't know what it is but about fire that pulls deep emotions and thoughts from my head.
I sometimes wonder if I'm going to wake up and be in a totally different place, time, mind and body. Like something out of that movie Strange Days. I'm just jacked into somekind of machine that induces an alternate reality. So when I wake up it's actually only been an hour or something. People buy an hour long "alternate life" for fun and just jack in and live it. Ok i'll quit rambling before you all think I'm completely insane...haha..hahaha

Funny...I always have gone for drives...its my meditation now that I don't ski anymore. These days, I have a 270 mile daily commute and I still end up going for drives when I go to put my car away for the night...its how I relax I guess...or blow off steam...depending on what my mood is.

Yeah, nothing like a good long drive in the mountains w/ the curvy roads and the radio blasting to clear ones head. Ususally one of the best ways for me to get control of the thoughts in my head. No talking, just driving

Feelings of boredom, anxiety, and stagnancy are hard to deal with sometimes. You just get sick of the same repetitive things day after day. I think that it helps to have some variety to feel like you're growing in some way. Usually, when I feel anxiety I try to find out what's causing it. If I can do something about it at the time I usually do, if not, I wait until I can. In the meantime it usually means car rides or something else to distract the mind.
Break up the routine with something new, it helps a lot. Even hobbies can get a little tiring sometimes.
