Questions on gas mileage

Post by syphon »

Hey everyone,

I just had a few questions about gas mileage. I want to see what other people are getting in their TURBO legacies.

I know you N/A people are getting 25-30mpg and all, but keep it to yourselves :-)

Anyway, how many miles do you usually get on a tank of gas? How many miles is the car usually good for when the light comes on?

Right now, my car is at 260 miles and the gas light still isn't on (but I suspect an appearance at any moment). The gauge is very low.

How high would it get before i run out of gas? How big is the gas tank anyway?

It is my daily driver... I get into the pedal a lot but I'm not racing this car.

In my old '85 GL wagon I could get 400 a tank (but just barely).

Once you use up 14.5 gallons you will start to have issues when you make right turns. Id guess the tank is 16 gallons or so. I always top off, shake the car to make it bubble down, and top off again.

I fill the way ciper does, but my tank is a paltry 11.(I think 4) gallons (fwd). I have never seen the light come on even when the gauge read below empty and I had to put a little over 11 gallons in. I get about 25 on the highway, 28 if I drive old-lady style, maybe 18-20 beating on it or over 110.

I tried driving like a granny and only got about 160-180 each tank. Course this was also when my headgaskets were leaking :)

That happened to me, just in a different way.

Took an uphill onramp fast. . .and I mean balls-out acceleration. Hit the fuel cutoff at about 5k. Apparently, the gas all sloshed to the back of the tank, and the level was so low to begin with, the fuel pump had nothing to pump for a few seconds!

isn't that bad for our pumps? Something about them being cooled by the gas running through them. I know I messed up the sender when I let it run a littlle too low.

Probably. . . although it being only a second or three, I doubt any damage would have occurred. :P

I love my turbo legacy, but she is a thirsty pig. My wagon gets 15-20 mpg, depending on driving style. It's not stock, but pretty darn close to it.

I think the tank is 15-16 gallons. I usually put 13-14 gallons in when I fill up. I get about 40 miles more once I see the light on. About gas mileage with a full tank, it depends...

Straight Highway...300 (shell gas, not sure if it makes a difference)
Delivering Pizzas at the moment...240
Delivering Pizzas with bad plugs...220
Delivering Pizzas with a boost leak and bad plugs...200
