Snap goes the plastic piece

Post by MrBean85 »

Got out of class tonight. Had my car running by the time I got to it, unlocked the door, reached down to "pop" the trunk---snap. The tip of the trunk release lever broke off right in my hand....grrr, normally wouldn't be a problem for most people but I'm a perfectionist and hate it when crap like this happens.

Dont worry about it. Your car was probably the only one in existance with an intact lever. Seriously.

Just take some sandpaper to it so you dont cut your finger on the jagged edge when opening it.

Good luck finding one in a jy, most of them are snapped, too. My wagon has a sedan trunk release for the gas tank since the previous owner couldn't find a blue gas lever. These things are like the gas cover latch on the EA81 GLs - I went through 4 of those.

I never broke it in my 95 and it's still in tact in my 94. Maybe I'm lucky?

Yes, very. Ive NEVER seen one that wasnt broken and Ive looked at alot of legacys.

Anyone have an idea to strengthen it? I still have the broken part for my moms (the owner saved it) but couldnt figure out how to reattach it.

Mine's not broken, but it doesn't release the trunk when I pull it. The cable's either broken or stretched.

I think I'd rather have a broken lever that still opened the trunk than what I've got right now. :x

You sure you didnt turn it off? Open the trunk and check the little bar, if in the up position it prevents the trunk from opening (like child safety door locks).

my trunk and gas release both work and aren't broken :D Though I don't use them that often. I'm in the trunk maybe once a month so I usually keep it locked.

I was surprised that the handle lasted as long as it did...I'm in my trunk 2-4 times a day. It was just a little unexpected.

Although, my driver's side sunvisor was even more unexpected. Driving along, hit a bump, and flop goes the sunvisor, it just was swinging back and forth.

The sunvisors are also terrible. I removed mine after all other methods failed and just wear sunglasses. I'm thinking of making new ones of my own design with dark smoked-acrylic sheets.

I had the original gas release for my car, too, but could never figure out how to fix it. The cable stay part broke out so that you could pull on the handle, but it wouldn't move the cable. On the trunk release, the actual handle usually breaks off. I'm very careful with my trunk-to-gas release and try to pull it from as far back on the arm as I can (which is easy as there's an empty space where the gas release was that I can reach into).

Eeep. I have no idea. I'll definitely check that first.

Thanks ciper!

My driver's visor would flop down with every bump when I bought my Legacy. A little adhesive-backed velcro strip keeps it up now. It's invisible when the visor's up, so I only see the ugly velcro when I would be blinded anyway.

They are very exclusive, and only available to a limited number of people.

I happen to be really cool, so I got a set.

All the velcro in the world wouldn't have helped my visor....when it flopped down it would swing back and forth freely...it got old after quickly. Now I've got one sunvisor out of a GL10 turbo wagon on the driverside and the factory visor on the pass. side....GHETTO :D And I've got my $9 fake Addidas sunglasses purchased in Mexico when all else fails :D
