Stupid fuel light doesn't work.

Has anyone experienced a problem with their fuel light NOT coming on?
I swear, in all the time I've had the car, I've never known it to work.
I've driven the car to the point where I'm certain I'm close to running out of gas, but to no avail -the damn light just won't come on!
I know it's hardly a big deal, but I'd really like it if the light would come on when it was supposed to, if only for posterity's sake.
On a side note: when exactely is "supposed" to come on? 1/4 tank? 1/8th of a tank?
I'm pretty sure all the fuses are solid so I can't for the life of me determine why this 'lil bastard doesn't work.

if you run out of gas and it doesn't come on then i think you should be worried. I've had it just about to go under the line and it hasn't come on. I was so scared looking for an atm to get money for gas in some part of town i've never been in.

It will work, just randomly when it decides to. Out of four legacy I have driven to low, none of them are predictable.

Use your triptometer.

Several other cars have the light come on with 1 gallon remaining, but I don't know what Subaru does. Mine hasn't come on even with less than a gallon left.

My light comes on after I've used up about 13.5 gallons.

Bob, maybe you should get one of those red plastic gas tanks, fill it up, and drive your car until either the light comes on or the engine stalls from lack of fuel. Then you'll know for sure.

Mine used to come on when I had used up 13.5 gallons about. Of course, at that point my car already is almost dying at the lights because of lack of fuel getting to the pump. The light would also fade in brightness and the fuel sloshed around. It stopped coming on the second week I had the car. So basically it doesn't come on anymore. I just watch my guage and my odometer. I can get my bar to almost touch the gas pump emblem before I need to fill up.
