Ok, the resealed engine in my car has some life left in it, but I'm trying to plan ahead, and would enjoy more power as well. I can get away with an engine swap legally as long as the replacement is from the same model year or newer and all emissions equipment is functional. The turbo engines sound nice power/mod wise, but I don't want things to get out of hand with new exhaust plumbing, etc. What I've been thinking is along the lines of a 2.7 from the XT6 or a 2.5. I'd prefer an engine that has the same exhaust port pattern as my 2.2, and an otherwise simple swap (sensors and/or ecu the same for example). There's no rush on this, as I can't do anything until I get another house of my own (next year sometime), but I want to get the info in case something happens in the meantime and I have to replace either the tranny or engine. I want to replace both at the same time if possible. Thanks!

2.7 wont fit without a different transmission. 2.5 will only give a small amount of power for the work. You dont seem to understand how easy the turbo swap is, if you get a donor wagon turbo its a direct swap other than wiring.

All EJ series are the same size (all come from the same mold as I understand it). They all use the same mounts too IIRC

But like Ciper said, finding a Touring Wagon would be the easiest bet. Just bolt it in and drive off.

If you could pick up the Legacy turbo in the parts section the woman from Ann Arbor is selling you'd be all set. Its really a rolling parts car. The engine ran fine.

While i will agree that the turbo engine will yeild greater power per dollar, it does require much more work to install then the 2.5L. Having just completed the 2.5L swap, i'll tell ya, it's fairly easy if you have the time and patience, and the car is remarkably quite a bit more drivable then before. crossmember, exhaust, ecu - all these things can be used from the factory 2.2L, can the same be said for the 2L turbo?

the ez30 will fit too and get you a really fat torque curve. but will probably cost more.

jason, was that ej25 into a awd? im thinking of sticking one into my fwd if i get some extra cash. my 95 has 225,000 on it and my 90 only has 120,000 so i would put the 90 engine in the 95 and a ej25 or a jdm ej20 into the 90. the 2.5 would make a decent g5 car and a tweaked ej20 would make a fun g2 car. the ej20 isnt much less powerfull than the ej22 in stock trim.

If the ej20 is turbo, you'll be in group 5. Hell, with 4 valves per cylinder, DOHC, and AWD multipliers, even a Naturally aspirated ej20 will be grp 5.

im pretty sure a ej20 na would stay in g2. even with the modifiiers.

1997cc actualx1.2=2396.4cc adjusted limit is 2400cc adjusted for G2. maximum 4valve per cylinder actual displacement is 2000cc.

sounds like a crock of shit to me. A) an 8 cylinder in the forester and B) a V- configuration. Nossir, they don't get my $.

Jason, its true. You just misread it!

The JDM Forester is the ONLY Subaru outside the US to get the EJ257. They are the same exact motor as the STI here.

ok, so all in all the EJ22T is a better swap than for a larger displacement engine as far as power goes. But the EJ25 is a direct drop in and go with no exhaust or wiring changes. Hmmm, gonna have to keep my eyes open. Ann Arbor is a good distance away from Tucson, and I'm not in a position that I could do the swap yet. Hmmmm.... thanks for the info!

The H12 was built by Motori Moderni I believe for their aborted F1 program before they thankfully decided on rallying. It also showed up in the stillborn Jiotto-Caspita supercar.
